What is your favourite healthy vegetarian meal?
We’re very fortunate now (haven’t always been) to have a house with plenty of rooms, so we’re able to have what we call a ‘games room’. It’s very big and doubles up as our gym, accommodates a full size table tennis table, massage couch, children’s toys and all my painting paraphernalia, plus a couch and TV. Our son used it for practice when he had a band and it’s hosted many family parties.
One friend has a garden shed/studio for her handicrafts hobby and another friend has a sewing room. What about you, do you have a room for your hobbies and interests?

I live in an A-frame Mountain house and my sanctuary is all open with large glass windows facing west and looking over the saddle between two mountains. The ceilings are supported by large wooden beams and are knotty pine. A stairway goes up to a balcony which enters into our bedroom. I painted the tall wall a deep clay red which is absolutely beautiful when the sun hits it. The other two walls are a peaceful blue which matches the bluestone fireplace on one end of the room. My oriental rug is also blue and has one inch thick karate school mats under it. This is where I practice the softer side of martial arts, flowarts, yoga, moving meditations, reiki and dance. Mirrors fill the walls so that the massive sky, trees, hawks and sunlight can all be reflected back at me. It is a sacred space where body, mind and spirit become one. Music and silence are both welcome, depending on whichever calls to me. I can throw spin tosses up into the air without hitting the ceilings unlike in my previous studio. But.... every room in our home has a function, a special purpose, a time and a place to dwell. Even my geodesic dome greenhouse is used year-round, growing herbs in the warmer months and hearty greens throughout the winter. Then, there's the outdoor sauna with sunset views.... now that is totally hygge. The room inside of my soul is wherever I am. <3
This does sound fabulous and I'm guessing it isn't in the UK..
I used to live in a house with sunset views of a large lake.... and really miss the water. I never thought I'd leave that place but the yuppies with their party boats going with loud music into midnight and beyond took the lake over. As a kayaker, the full speed ahead fishing boats and tournaments, upset the balance of nature. I moved 300 miles away after getting remarried and landed here. Recreating another dreamy space and making a house feel like home (far away from friends and family) for hubby and I is my new life. I have to travel over 3 hours to get to the ocean now. Embracing what we have in the now, including sweet memories from our past, is the journey! Being retired with no kids or grandkids is a whole new chapter in life. Lol, its already been 7 years! Finding new joys when old ones slip away is where I'm at. I keep wondering if I'll ever be a grandmother. Now, that would be something to embrace!
No, but I do love to spend time in the conservatory, especially on a cold, sunny day.
Or a day when it's lashing down with rain.
Or just watching the sky!
There's so much more light in there for craft.
Here’s our games room. Would have made an effort to make it look good, but was dashing when I nipped up to take photos.
HeidiJoy2u2, that sounds like a dreamy place to live 😊

pascal30 that last message was meant to quote yours! I'll try again! 👍😊
😊 👍
That sounds nice, Katyj, cosy grandma's 🤗🤗
We use every inch of space, downsized nearly four year ago. I would love an extra room but it’s not to be now. At least the DGC love to stay and call it cozy grandmas 🤣
Thanks urms, appreciated.
I am glad to hear that most people don't regret downsizing. My family think I couldn't live in a small space but I know I could. I want a garden though, even a tiny one.
I have a she-shed which I grandly refer to as my studio. It was supposed to accommodate my textile crafts; storage during the winter and workspace during the summer. Unfortunately it has become a dumping ground so as soon as things are a bit warmer and drier I need to get in their and get it sorted out. Those curtains won't make themselves.
My three adult children have moved out, unfortunately a great deal of their belongings have not, so we still have far too many of their things in the loft and storage area.
Cossy
Nope!! Would have if only our adult children would please move out 🤞🤞🙏🙏😂😂😂😂😂
We eventually moved house so that our three remaining adult children had to leave home!
I am going to turn my large landing into a reading space, a wall of bookshelves, and an armchair are all I need. I have spotlights which can be directed to light my book.
We did have loads of space in our last house and my husband had a room for his music and piano and I had one for my computer. Now we’re living in much less space, he has a small room for his music and a keyboard rather than a piano.
We’ve knocked two bedrooms together, making a lovely big bright room and I use my computer in there, on a side table.
I actually like having less space, we spend much more time together - though I appreciate that this is not what everyone wants!
We made one of the bedrooms into an office for me. It holds bookshelves for many of my books, my late husbands desk where my Apple Mac sits. I have a printer in there and I want to use it for my family history which I love doing. It is crammed full of old iPods being charged and a cupboard full of various computer cables and techie stuff. I never seem to be alone as my little dogs wander in and out for attention or like to day there was a workman doing odd job repairs. I need the room but I must spend more time there instead of trying to get apps working on the TVs. We decided to have Apple TV but it is a bit of a pain to get it to work. But the silver lining is that I am never bored. It is time for the dogs to eat and I can listen to the Archers while they are busy eating.

I have my sewing room. It used to be a walk in wardrobe. No one else goes in there. It's a bit untidy...
What a clever use of space..
After seeing your photos, I wandered into my room, with the intention of tidying up.
I changed my mind and wandered back out again!
Thinking further on this, I probably have more choice outside than in! I’ve started getting the garden reading areas ready for sunny days now that January is slinking off 💨 good riddance!
We have a JacknJill seat under the laburnum where I have my early chamberpot ☕️ and check emails. An east facing swing seat for when the sun comes up over the mountain and a bench seat for lunch/dinner al fresco.
Evening tipples 🍹🍺 in the summer house facing west and if we’re feeling sociable, we sit on the bench seat out front with a bottle of wine and drag in unsuspecting neighbours….😂
Thanks for sharing your photo’s - my parents-in-law are just about to arrive for the evening, so I’ll post a photo of my room tomorrow.
Also, my condolences to those of you who have mentioned losing loved ones recently.
…my actual living SPACE…
I have a special room in my condo - the junk room. It’s not really junk, just pieces of furniture/accessories I’ve placed in there till I donate or sell off pieces. I also put miscellaneous “stuff” in there for temporary hold - kid’s birthday/Christmas presents, an extra vacuum cleaner, quilts/blankets for laundering, seasonal things I bring out to use temporarily, I start charity bags and keep adding to them till the pickup. Things like that.
It’s a very valuable space for me - it’s kind of an ever-changing work room. I can spare that since my actual living is up to snuff.
When we moved here 4 years ago we debated what to do with the 3 spare bedrooms. In the end we just made them into guests rooms - 1 adult double room, one decorated for younger children (the sloth room) and one decorated for older children (the star room). I love the fact that anybody can stay at anytime. They came in really useful last year when my son and his 2 children stayed with us for 6 weeks. They were in constant use over the Christmas and New year break and will be again at Easter, if not before. We use the dining room if we want to have space for a project, at the moment the table is covered in photos as we are planning a photo wall. We eat in the breakfast area when we haven’t got visitors so don’t need the dining room all the time. I don’t really like the idea of being locked away in a small space.
