On a recent visit to a churchyard I noticed the following on a headstone “He tried to be kind”
Have to say it made me smile.😊

I won't be having a headstone, but if I did, it would read……
Step Back A Bit, You're Crushing My Boobs!

Pammie1 Sat 03-Feb-24 17:39:45

I think Spike Milligan nailed it with ‘told you I was ill’. Don’t think anyone will top that !!

None for me ,though I saw on a seat in a Church yard"She was the wind beneath our wings",I thought it very poignant.

No headstone for me. My only memorial will be in the memories of those who survive me and remember me, especially my grandchildren.

Same here.
Unless, of course, those who survive me decide differently, but I don't think they will once they know that I don't want to be buried.

And typically I made a spelling error!

Ofcouse is is “did”

All I want is “ She Dud Her Best”

Sounds a bit selfish but I do try to help my family, friends and dogs who will die in shelters if we ignore them.

I think I'll have "this time next year I'll be a millionaire"

Floradora9 Fri 02-Feb-24 21:35:28

Like many others I will have no gravestone but if I did it would say " at least she tried "

Smileless2012

That was Spike Milligan TerriBull; good isn't it grin.

But it was written in Irish Gaelic so not everyone realises what it says.

I quite fancy “It’s where you left it”.

Mine is already on the stone on my late OH's grave:

"I rest in the grace of the world and am free."

A quote from Wendell Berry's poem The Peace of Wild Things.

I saw the headstone of a young woman who died recently aged 22, her email address was on the headstone. Made me smile a little.

BlueBelle Fri 02-Feb-24 19:39:13

I m not having a headstone

Labradora Fri 02-Feb-24 18:58:56

"She tried to keep her head above the water.... glug..... glug"
OR
"Who ? Me? What, Right Now ?"
OR
"Was that it ....?"
Like the Spike Milligan one.....
GSM is right...... headstones are expensive....

I'm pretty sure this comes from a gravestone somewhere in one of the Southern States of the USA. I think I can find it. Back in a sec.

ETA - Here's the whole poem:

Here lies a poor woman who always was tired
For she lived in a place where help wasn't hired
Her last words on earth were, "Dear friends I am going
Where washing ain't done nor sweeping nor sewing
And everything there is exact to my wishes
For there they don't eat and there's no washing of dishes
Don't mourn for me now, don't mourn for me never
For I'm going to do nothing for ever and ever."

JamesandJon33 Fri 02-Feb-24 18:31:55

I would like ……

NEXT ?

Susiewong65 Fri 02-Feb-24 18:29:06

It that case it will be ‘Goodbye’

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 02-Feb-24 18:26:51

Depends how much those you leave behind are prepared to pay - stone masons charge by the letter.
