West Yorkshire / Calderdale is a really fantastic area with a great community spirit and convenient for Manchester and Halifax .
I don't know North Yorkshire .

If you can afford fees there are many excellent independent schools all over Yorkshire. I have no recent experience of the state schools.

Harrogate is very nice but again, very expensive.

The church schools wether CofE or Catholic are always better than county schools both for Teens and primary ages.Grammar schools very good wherever but theres not as many in Yorkshire areas.

York Uni is wonderful but very hard to get into- some years ago i was offered a place as a 'mature' student (i was about 33) but sadly in end had to turn it down as could not get a house near (even renting) as all very expensive and i had a family.

Thank you ☺️

Hi yes happy to drive teens to school. I guess aslong as the school gets good enough reviews as is rated at least ‘good’ is sufficient. I’ve not heard of those areas but I’m off to look 👀 Thank you

NickyMumOf4 Thu 08-Feb-24 11:44:24

That’s great to know thank you. I’ll look where that area is too 😊

NickyMumOf4 Thu 08-Feb-24 11:43:32

Oh wow very expensive then! Thanks

NickyMumOf4 Thu 08-Feb-24 11:42:56

Thank you for your reply. What secondary state schools would be catchment for these areas do you know?

Yes Beverley is lovely Cabbie but also expensive these days.

Oulton and Woodlesford are close to Leeds.
£600k buys a very good home
Leeds university is thought to be good.
I don’t know how easy it is to place teenagers into sought after schools and what type of school you consider to be good. Leeds Grammar School? Are you willing to drive said teenagers to school?

Beverley is a lovely small, historic market town with superb shops. Two beautiful, active churches. Theatre, leisure centre. Much cheaper than Harrogate. Buses and trains to Hull, York, the east coast.

I’d second that, but ‘keen’ is an understatement. Prices are very high around York and Harrogate, with many family homes now converted to apartments, costing half a £1M!
Good luck with your hunt.

You might look at the Leeds / York / Harrogate triangle though property prices are keen in all three!

Hi,

We are a family of 2 Adults, 2 teens, a cat and a dog. Would love your help on areas which are better for families. We would need to be close to excellent high schools and further education is a bonus. Would love a rural village within a close car drive to towns with lots of independent cafes, restaurants and shops. We would love somewhere with a fabulous community spirit. We have around 600k to spend on a home if that helps with what areas we can afford. Where would you suggest?

We are thinking North Yorkshire or maybe York but would appreciate your help and advice.

Thank you
