We get so much rain in N/E Scotland that would make things unbearable. It's not feasible here.

And what would happen if it rained on St Swithun's Day?

Bea65 a gazunder is a potty, po, chamber pot. Went under the bed at night so you didn't have to trek down the garden to spend a penny in the middle of the night!
I may have spelt it wrong, it could be guzunder.

My Mother called it a po. Must have been her French heritage.

This whole thread sounds like a discussion between flaky Generation X'ers. Doesn't anyone remember the days when some people still had outside toilets? My uncle and aunt in the country for a start. They gave us a big china potty under the bed. I would have no problem emptying a commode, not as awful as dirty nappies.

Yes I do agree some people just waste water eg when brushing teeth..I always switch tap off and have a glass of water to rinse..

water companies pay £15bn to shareholders whilst our bills will increase whilst companies update the infrastructure so toilets etc. can be drained safely. thats why some people have been told not to flush the loo according to Tory MP Flick Drummond.

This is why privatisation costs more, the shareholders and managers expect whopping payouts, same in the NHS etc.

Privatisation does not get better frontline services, but it costs us more.

WE are not on mains drainage
When it rains our system has to cope with the water like a river running of the road so we use the Australian rhyme. Have never flushed toilets in the night wherever we have lived so as not to wake sleeping children and adults.We are obsessed in this country I think you will find most yellow a sterile fluid

I've reduced how often I flush to save water. It was even recommended by Martin Lewis to save money if you're metered. As I live alone I only flush when necessary but I flush every time outside home or if I have guests. We really need to reduce our water use not just because of flooding. Shorter showers, shallower baths and general reduction in usage helps our pockets as well as the environment.

One of our lesser-known Tory MPs desperate to get a bit of coverage?

Hmmmm........sounds like an ideal way to block the household drains to be honest........just think of the build-up of loo paper not to mention other 'unmentionables'

As soon as it stops raining, everyone flushes their loos and everything gets blocked up at once.

It was an MP who said it not a representative of a water company.

My daughter cannot flush her toilets (or use her bath or sinks) during heavy rain. The sewers back up in her estate of new builds and nobody will take responsibility for it, especially not the water board. The area she lives in has real problems with such scenarios but still they continue to build.

Yes, this was Tory MP Flick Drummond saying it will ease pressure on water companies so they don't have to dump excess waste water and sewage into rivers.

That does actually make 'some' sense, but I suspect that the overflow chambers the sewage is discharged from are probably too small for the area they serve because the Water Companies haven't updated the infrastructure.

Of course, all wastewater (from baths, washing machines, etc.) goes into the sewer, so perhaps we;d better stop all water related household operations when it rains

In our area it’s the storm drains which constantly overflow on very wet weather as they’re not properly maintained.

Good good, could you imagine the chaos and outcome if it was caused by us flushing our loos and sewers Co stantmy flooding! Ew! 💩💩💩
