The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face…..

I remember Roberta Flack singing this. I was a young teenager and thought it was beautiful. I also loved her singing Killing Me Softly which I think was written by someone as an homage to Don MacLean. It reminds me of happier times. I did fall in love with someone across a dance floor, and he fell in love with me. But it wasn't to be. One of my favourite songs is Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce.

The one that gets me everytime is Dance with my Daddy Luther van Dross

It’s number one on my downloaded playlist …..I was married in 1972 as well …wonderful song.

The opening lines remind me of how I felt when I first saw my son - and still do nearly 40 years later.

I love both of these songs- when we first met approximately 60 years ago, we didn't have these songs. ... l knew that John and l would be together as l set eyes on him. He has recently died and lm totally bereft... my elder son says l have to go forward... how! I find a little solace in these songs ...

A great song full of nostalgia for me and a few tears.

I do like this song very much and Roberta Flack sings it effortlessly, but my favourite song of hers is Killing Me Softly - I still go weak at the knees when I hear it and I can’t bear anyone else’s version.

This song was played on something I watched last night. It still sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it, sung by the incomparable Roberta Flack, who incidentally is 87 today.

She recorded it in 1972, I think, the year DH and I married.

Just listening to the words makes me feel so young and just so nostalgic for being ‘in love’ and feeling that no one else has ever felt like that before.

We had the Stereophonics version as our first dance.

It’s a beautiful song and Ms Flack has really made it her own. My favourite rendition, though, was sung by Matt Cardle during the audition stages of X Factor or whatever incarnation of the talent show was at the time. He did sing it as a finalist, but it wasn’t the same!

We knew Ewan McColl and Peggy Seeger at that time. Ewan wrote this song for Peggy who originally sang it. We feel very privileged to have known them then.

That melody and incomparable voice evoked a FEELING that I’m sure most everyone has been struck by. It was a mega- MEGA hit.

The song can even give one hope if they have not yet been shot through the heart by Cupid’s bow. It timeless.

That's the way my husband and I experienced our first sight of each other across the expanse of a large crowded pub. We still feel the same now about 35 years later

Indeed CalendarG, a stunning, evocative song, and voice too, Roberta Flack is one of the greats in that respect.

When you hear some modern singers being lauded as "incredible", etc - Taylor Swift comes to mind, but plenty more - it's hard to know whether to laugh or cry.
