Hair dilemma?

I can’t understand why there is such a concern about “going grey”. Dyed hair looks so artificial, especially on older people, imo and swilling chemicals regularly down the drain which most commercial hair dyes contain, particularly ammonia is harmful to aquatic life and bad for the environment.

Have to agree with you.
I’ve been grey for a long time (I’m 57) and I’ve embraced it.

Think about what was your best ever look. Does this length suit you? Has your hair always been long. Someone suggested Argan oil. It is wonderful for taming the frizz. Also, good tip about the eyebrows. If you don't want the salon look, there are all those pencil versions we used during lockdown. Hope you find something you like, with minimum faff.

I am searching for something like l'oreal root touch up, except I actually want it in grey, rather than to cover grey.

Faith in nature shampoo and conditioner are organic, smell lovely and could maybe help with the frizz. I use hair straighteners but my hair is always shiny..

I agree with those saying keep your now natural colour Lilliesmum79 and whatever style is the easiest.

Short hair needs more faff to keep it looking good. I loved my Lockdown Long Hair. Sadly chemo saw the end of that. I didnt lose it but it went very very thin and dry and I had it cut in a short bob.
Keep your eyebrows defined, wear lipstick and some eye makeup so you don't "fade away".
I see lots of women with dyed hair which can be very harsh against ageing skin colour. I also hate gel type nails on old lady hands and loads of rings and heavy tans on wrinklies.....but that's just me and will offend many I expect. But we are all different thank goodness.

I could never do a messy bun and would love one.

B.butterfly. Try having a 'dry' cut as the sink hurts you. I wash my hair b4 I go and my hair gets sprayed with water. My hair is short and layered and I get a quick blow dry. In and out in 20mins.

There is a fb group for going grey. Some of the women look fabulous with wonderful natural high lights. They are so happy no longer using chemicals and not spending loads at the hairdressers.

You have to get short hair cut every six weeks and that is so expensive now ... i have let mine grow and put in pony tail or bun ... much more sensible ..

I haven't cut my hair for four years at least and will be 74 next week. I use coconut oil daily on it but prefer real Argan Oil when I can get it. I just twist it up and clip it on top of my head. Some days the occasional corkscrew hangs down and I just leave it. You'll see from the pic that my top knot is a different colour but that never bothered me. It's now all white and I love it!.... I have mentioned elsewhere that when I worked on a long stay hospital ward the staff all particularly enjoyed helping the women with long hair to put it up..... Only takes a sec! Family members say I'm just an old hippy..

Eventually the hair colour doesn’t match the face …

Maybe a shortish bob which you can either straighten or leave wavy? Grey hair looks good in that style.

I agree with Sago. Sounds like you've given up! At least go and get a trim and dicuss with stylist. Too young at 60 to give up. 2 hrs for hair to dry??? Small light hairdryer tip your head forward and dry,that way you don't have to lift. A visit to salon and you'll feel a new woman. X

Everyone to their own but I love white hair. I always had thick hair but unfortunately due to health issues it is now thin, dry, broken etc. Putting it up with clips or in a ponytail with a scrunchie is the only way I can make myself look reasonable. For now. It is a very forgiving, easy way to manage your hair. And I see people of all ages wearing this sort of style. A straightener is wonderful for frizz. Light, quick easy. But it might be too much for your arms and shoulders though I have trouble there too. I would say keep your style as it is. As someone said, it is our smile for them that other people see first when they look at us.

I grew my dye and fringe out 3 years ago. I love the natural look. Sometimes as we age our natural colour and type of hair suits best. I love colour and funky style but I look at photos of myself and can see my hair is happy and healthy. No fringe is so much better in warm weather, even winter bob hats sent it wonky. Practical wins over style for me .

The 8 second wonder water from Loreal is great for mine and I'm 63 and growing the grey out . Also the revamp retractable bristles hot brush if it needs a quick tidying !

I am much the same as you but sometimes, I dye the hair underneath in a pretty colour . My husband cuts the top layer shorter so the colour shows at the bottom but I don't have "roots". I rarely do more than brush my hair through after washing. I haven't given up as such, it just doesn't me for it to look more natural. On the rare occasions I am going somewhere special, I straighten it and it looks nice but what a faff to do it every time. I'm the same with makeup!

I can highly recommend Elvive Low Shampoo. It’s sulphate free and it looks like conditioner but it thoroughly cleanses and conditions at the same time and leaves hair smooth. I finish it off with Jonn Frieda serum. I have bleach blonde hair but it never looks dry.

I’m now 67 and only relatively recently discovered the Brazilian blow dry treatment, I have naturally fine frizzy hair which is a nightmare to maintain, but I had my first BBD for my son’s wedding in the South of France (without it my hair would have looked like candy floss with the heat) The BBD straightens the hair which means I can wash my hair, towel dry and brush it and it is good to go
Whilst not cheap the treatment lasts for 6+ months so for me worth every penny

I stopped colouring my hair about 15 years ago, I am now 68 and love my grey hair, haven’t cut it in years and now its almost to my bum. I just pile it up in a messy bun or plait it.

60 does seem very young I am 68 and very very fortunate to have hardly any grey and just use a semi permanent when I feel like it. My hairdresser has promised to tell me when I need to do something else.

What I have discovered is my hair is quite curly after years of trying to blow dry it I now leave it to air dry and just use some product for curly hair.

I am 70 and not very grey yet. I have a jellyfish haircut, long at the back bob at the front... Now or never. Which makes it very easy to look after. Shampoo/ conditioner, rinse and dry. Love it.
