My favourite Radio 2 D J, what a shock.

I agree a totally horrible post by mae13 , What a terrible thing to say on a post giving a tribute to a man who has recently died.

Georgesgran Wed 14-Feb-24 07:45:24

Some people just can’t help themselves Mae13.
An uncalled for post from an unknown!

Kandinsky Wed 14-Feb-24 07:39:35

What a horrible post mae13 about a man who’s just died.
His wife or family could be reading this.

That was a shock yesterday.
Steve wasn't my favourite DJ but did help me through some lengthy afternoon dental appointments!
RIP.

Apart from listening to him on Radio 1 and 2 , saw him live in the 90` s whilst working on a cycle race at the NEC in Birmingham on a Sunday afternoon with Peter Powell .

Very much a shock. Not one of my favourites, though he helped get me through cooking the roast dinners when I worked at the hospice on Sundays! Totally appreciate his experience and warranted status within broadcasting.

My plumber, a very well known man locally , is named Steve Wright.
He is known by everyone as Steve Wright in the afternoon.
RIP Steve, a lovely broadcaster.

That is very sad as well as unexpected. Steve Wright was very popular, I didn't enjoy all his shows but Sunday Love Songs was very pleasant. A true professional he will be missed. Condolences to his family.
RIP Steve.

Very sad news.

Callistemon21 Tue 13-Feb-24 20:13:01

I used to listen to Steve Wright in the Afternoon after driving home from doing a school run for the DGC and occasionally to his Sunday Love Songs.
The music he played was proper Radio 2 music, unlike some of the stuff that is played now.

RIP Steve Wright

I was not a fan of the afternoon show but still such sad news, gone far too young. RIP to a radio legend.

Wright prerecorded Sunday Love Songs on a Friday, featuring traditional dedications, requests for partners in both same-sex and heterosexual relationships and assorted letters or emails from listeners, invariably including the mantra “Loving the show, Steve”.

I also lost interest in BBC radio when he left.

Lovely man and so funny.

Very sad for his family

flappergirl Tue 13-Feb-24 19:22:07

I will miss you Steve. Such a bit part of my life going back years. You seemed like a nice man and you always had a joke and a smile. I am in shock. Condolences to your family.

Puzzlelove

I heard it a few minutes ago and was shocked, sounds like it was sudden as he was on air on Sunday I believe. Used to love his afternoon show.

Hi, Puzzlelove, I'm not 100% sure but I think SW's Sunday Love Songs is pre recorded, I'm not sure about Pick of the Pops. Still pretty unexpected though.

I'm so sorry to hear that he has died, I enjoyed his afternoon show. I left Radio 2 after 30 odd years, when they dispensed with Ken and Steve.
R.I.P. Steve Wright

Shocked. Haven’t listened to radio 2 in the afternoons since his show was taken off the air. Well, tried once and never again. Listened to his Sunday morning show and pick of the pops on Saturday afternoons only last weekend. Will be sorely missed. One of the best DJs.

Smileless2012 Tue 13-Feb-24 18:09:10

Oh dear, that's a shock and only 69. RIP flowers.

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 13-Feb-24 18:06:16

So sad, I stopped listening to radio 2 when they axed his show along with the other radio 2 ‘stalwarts’ that I had listened to for so many years.

Visgir1 Tue 13-Feb-24 18:04:20

So sad.. Not my favourite DJ but a legend on the Radio. RIP
