My favourite Radio 2 D J, what a shock.

Puzzlelove Tue 13-Feb-24 17:26:28

I heard it a few minutes ago and was shocked, sounds like it was sudden as he was on air on Sunday I believe. Used to love his afternoon show.

RIP

Shocked to hear this on the news at 5pm, thought I had misheard at first. Only 69. RIP Steve

Urmstongran Tue 13-Feb-24 17:32:54

Goodness that’s a shock. He was a day younger than me.
RIP.

Grandmabatty Tue 13-Feb-24 17:34:04

I'm shocked and so sad. Steve Wright in the afternoon was a wonderful show. He was a great DJ and part of my teenage years and beyond.

merlotgran Tue 13-Feb-24 17:48:01

I feel shocked and sad. I loved Steve Wright’s afternoon programme and was angry when it was axed.

RIP Steve. You will be missed.

Bridie22 Tue 13-Feb-24 17:50:59

I will miss his Sunday morning love songs, RIP Steve.

Casdon Tue 13-Feb-24 17:51:30

Although he wasn’t one of my favourites, he was a stalwart of Radio 2 and will be much missed. I’m shocked to hear this. RIP.

Sparklefizz Tue 13-Feb-24 17:51:47

Have listened to his Sunday Morning Love Songs for about 25 years.

It sounds as if it was very sudden.
Thank you for the music Steve.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 13-Feb-24 17:51:47

What a shock to read this. A huge part of my past and he will be missed.

essjay Tue 13-Feb-24 17:54:40

So sad, I used to listen to him in the afternoon.

Lucyd Tue 13-Feb-24 17:56:38

My dear late husband and I used to listen to Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs on Radio 2. LH was a real romantic and I am sure we have a CD of the programme somewhere. Over 5 yrs since DH died and I know I would really struggle to listen to those songs now. Very sad news about Steve Wright.

Kandinsky Tue 13-Feb-24 17:58:50

Oh this is too sad. I grew up listening to him.
Brilliant DJ.

Georgesgran Tue 13-Feb-24 18:00:48

Very sad to hear this.
Younger than me.
RIP Steve.

Visgir1 Tue 13-Feb-24 18:04:20

So sad.. Not my favourite DJ but a legend on the Radio. RIP

Oopsadaisy1 Tue 13-Feb-24 18:06:16

So sad, I stopped listening to radio 2 when they axed his show along with the other radio 2 ‘stalwarts’ that I had listened to for so many years.

Smileless2012 Tue 13-Feb-24 18:09:10

Oh dear, that's a shock and only 69. RIP flowers.

wendyann23 Tue 13-Feb-24 18:31:05

Shocked. Haven’t listened to radio 2 in the afternoons since his show was taken off the air. Well, tried once and never again. Listened to his Sunday morning show and pick of the pops on Saturday afternoons only last weekend. Will be sorely missed. One of the best DJs.

Hi, Puzzlelove, I'm not 100% sure but I think SW's Sunday Love Songs is pre recorded, I'm not sure about Pick of the Pops. Still pretty unexpected though.

I'm so sorry to hear that he has died, I enjoyed his afternoon show. I left Radio 2 after 30 odd years, when they dispensed with Ken and Steve.
R.I.P. Steve Wright

Yes, very sad and very unexpected.
