The Sussexes ....again

Yesterday on our local BC news, both television and print, had the titles

"Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Whistler for Invictus Games Training".

I was curious why they used that headline, rather than using their official titles. Then I questioned their actual titles and how they should be addressed. I googled it, but admit I'm still a bit confused. He is a prince by birth, but not using the title now, so should be addressed as a Duke?

Should the headline have read 'The Duke and Duchess of Sussex..." instead? Even CBC which is funded by government much like your BBC used "Prince Harry and Meghan..." which I thought was odd.

I wonder about the media's reasons for using such casual titles, and even using Meghan's maiden name when they've been married for 8 years.

I read that he’s going to be talking about his life with Meghan.

Yawn!

Well, she’ll have coached him on what to say then.

It’s a wonder she isn’t there, gripping his hand, in case he makes a dash ‘to find freedom’.

Hopefully, he knows no more than the rest of us about his father’s illness, or else it would probably come out at the interview.

He is living the life of a celebrity now not a member of the royal family

This is my favourite photo of Harry & Meghan with their gorgeous family. Just look at the love between the baby and her mummy! And those cute baby toes! They are an amazingly fortunate couple. Blessed in so many ways with health, wealth and true happiness.

I just wish that once they’d renounced the RF life, (good luck to them, it was their choice) that they’d just kept a lower profile and bluddy well enjoyed themselves with all they have!

vegansrock Fri 16-Feb-24 10:58:12

The RF are celebrities though in every meaning of the word.

Which member of the royal family has appeared on a chat show ?

Sparklefizz Fri 16-Feb-24 11:09:31

I've just read that Harry has been booked to appear on TV in America to talk about Charles and his cancer. The cynic in me (based on Harry's past actions) thinks that's why he made his flying visit here.

Sparklefizz Fri 16-Feb-24 11:10:45

Sorry, I see I'm a bit late to the party with this news.

Anniebach Fri 16-Feb-24 11:21:18

I question would they have wanted to interview Harry if his father was not will. The Invictus Games are not until 2025 and in Canada

Which member of the royal family has appeared on a chat show ?

Princess Anne.

merlotgran Fri 16-Feb-24 12:07:52

Speaking in Whistler, Canada, Harry replied: 'Absolutely. Yeah, I'm sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis, again, the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together

Are you listening, Meghan?

Louella12 Fri 16-Feb-24 12:11:09

Oh yes! Princess Anne on Parky I think. Discussing the kidnapping attempt.

Very stoical is Anne. Very interesting interview. Available on YouTube

Anniebach Fri 16-Feb-24 12:26:57

Anne, second born but couldn’t even be ‘the spare’ no complaining
Supported her Mother and now her brother

vegansrock Fri 16-Feb-24 12:41:32

Oh and didn’t Fergie and Prince Edward do some TV show? Plus you don’t have to go on chat shows to be a celebrity- it’s anyone in the public eye , who is pursued by photographers, who appears in the papers and glossy mags, has a following and is gossiped about. I think that sums up the RF.

Spuddy Fri 16-Feb-24 12:52:19

I call them Hairy and Migraine!

Probably because that's how people know them, mostly. It's a media thing. Familiarity to sell newspapers and to irritate the ones hate the fact they're still called "Royals".

If you don't like them, don't read about them!

Give me them over William and Kate anyday.

Anniebach Fri 16-Feb-24 13:17:07

Seawoozle they have launched a new website- Prince Harry and Megan, duke and Duchess of Sussex

Iam64 Fri 16-Feb-24 13:19:25

I’ve just heard that when questioned, Harry talked about getting the first flight he could to see his father, after the king phoned him with the news. No he wouldn’t discuss that, he believes illness can help reconciliation

How do you know that?

Grannynannywanny Fri 16-Feb-24 13:30:29

I vaguely remember the Royal version of the games show “It’s A Knockout” in the 1980s. I think the main participants were Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Fergie and Andrew. My strongest memory of the day is Edward flouncing from the tent full of journalists because he was disappointed in their underwhelming reaction to the day. He said “thanks for being so bloody enthusiastic” and walked off 😀

CoolCoco Fri 16-Feb-24 14:04:36

P Andrew did that awful interview with Emily Maitlis.

Anniebach Fri 16-Feb-24 14:18:35

Edward can be forgiven for that flounce, early 20’s not middle
30’s

Parsley3 Fri 16-Feb-24 14:24:14

Oh yes, Andrew and his interview. And also Charles and Diana and their interviews. Too much information all round.

sandelf Fri 16-Feb-24 14:24:29

Living in Sussex I wish they'd change it to something altogether different.

Anniebach Fri 16-Feb-24 14:28:18

Charles gave an interview re his official biography, he didn’t slag anyone , neither did Edward, Anne or Andrew

Yes I understand, but which county would you inflict them on? Or Duke and Duchess of Faraway?
