Mirren how utterly dispiriting for you. And your patients.
A huge thank you though for returning to work in these straightened times.
You will be missed that’s for sure.

Is this any different from what would be required of me should I decide to return to work as a solicitor? I would have to undertake some sort of refresher course in order to obtain a practising certificate and, thereafter, continuing education each year. Surely it is all the more important that someone who is responsible for people’s lives, rather than just, in my case, money, should be able to prove that they are absolutely up to date? It may have been a sensible emergency measure to encourage retired doctors back into practice, but never having had a negligence claim is insufficient proof of current ability to practise safely.

Mirren, that is just awful! All that experience wasted.

If you are worried about not being able to get a GP appointment then you are going to love this one.
I am a GP ... after 40 successfully safe years, I retired...age 61 ,in 2018
2020 ,along came Covid and Boris asking for help from retired medical personnel!
I responded and restarted in a new practice in August 2020.
I only work 2 sessions weekly but I am 68.
I have loved being back..I only retired due to the organisational bureau where I worked
I have now worked, safely, successfully, happily for almost 4 years.
Now , our wonderful Government have decided to stop the " Emergency measures " that Covid prompted. .
I have been informed that, unless I engage with a " Return to Practice scheme " which is ,basically, retraining..then I must stop working as a doctor on March 13th.
I love being a doctor, I love my patients, I am a very good doctor. In my very long career I have never had a single complaint.
Now, when we are so short of GPs the powers that be have decided that I must cease the work the work I love.
You just couldn't make this up ,could you???
I am distraught!
Should anyone feel like writing to your MP , please, feel free!!!!
