Water play, finger painting, first step jigsaws (charity shops are good for this) and loads of books (charity shops again). We used to make fairy cakes from packet mixes when they were little. To confirm, my mother took my DD to a mother and baby group daily for 18 months. Sign up for something like Monkey Music once a week?

Do you have a library close by? Even small libraries have a children's area with toys, and may even have baby and toddler story sessions on your day. You can then take a book or two home to share - never too early to start a love of books and reading. My 4 year old granddaughter has loved books from an early age and she really enjoys me taking her to the library 📚

Congratulations on becoming a grandmother!
It would be advantageous to have some suitable toys to keep at your home, that would avoid transporting those along with baby every week. Also have a supply of his nappies, baby cream etc, the same as this mum uses at home, just in case mum forgets to bring them along.

Now for the fun bit smile .........

*Weather permitting how about a walk to the park to see the ducks (assuming you're near one)
*Consider a picnic, particularly as he gets older
*Could you taking him to a baby swim class?
*How about a local 'Mother' & Baby play group - doesn't matter that you're his nanny

I am sure other GNetters will add more suggestions.

We used to go out a walk with the pram, culminating in coffee at a local cafe. It was a great social event, because we bumped into other grandparents, whose children had been at school with ours. I loved those days and our bond with out DGD has just got stronger and stronger.

Enjoy!

I'm a new nanny at 55. My daughter is going back to work soon, and I will be looking after my gorgeous 5 month old grandson every Friday.

I'd be grateful for any ideas to keep him amused and happy every week.

I'm really looking forward to this becoming a lovely bonding session for us, and want to keep him happy and entertained.
