I wasn’t allowed comics as a child. My foster mother said that they used language which wasn’t acceptable and spelling that was guesswork. But she let me stay off school to finish the book “Gone With the Wind” at 11

Started off with Jack and Jill ( I remember Walter Hottle Bottle well), also had Playhour. I then went on to Cor! and Princess Tina, then Sandie and eventually Jackie. I still have my Sandie annuals and a Princess Tina Pony Book (which was a present from my Grandmother one Christmas). I also got a 'best of Jackie' book a few years ago. Thank you OP for such a lovely thread, which has bought back so many lovely memories. Another favourite annual amongst me and my friends was the Blue Peter annual.

School Friend. I used to sit at the back of the maths class and read it.

Loved Bunty, especially the paper cut out doll and outfits on the back page. I remember sitting on the doorstep with my friend Marion playing for hours with these paper dolls. My collection was kept in a metal biscuit tin.

* Teddy Bear comic. I liked nurse Susan & doctor David who
had a toy hospital.

Then it was The Beano and Dandy,. Sometimes Beezer.

My brother had the Eagle comic which I loved to read and some times if mother could afford treat was the Beano that’s back in the 50s

The only comic I had regularly was Princess. Having googled it, I see that it had regular stories about medieaval women and ballet. That must be where my interest in both started.
I loved the Bunty cut out dolls. We had other comics passed on by friends and neighbours. My brother had The Eagle.

I used to read Bunty and Judy.

I seem to remember there was one called Mandy? Was there also one called Twinkle?

And I could swear I remember reading 'Candy and Andy' although they may have been characters rather than a comic.

For Grayling and GSM, The Adventures of the Robin Family which I took from a February 1955 copy of Woman’s Weekly which I have here for some unknown reason!

That was wonderful. Thanks so much Juliet. I really enjoyed reading that little story. I looked forward to the Robin Family each week.

I read most of the girls comics mentioned here and even though it was decades ago, I still feel miffed that I didn't get to read the ending of a story in one of them where children were being carried off into the air by balloons.
