Leger Coach Holidays in Europe

I'm driving myself demented trying to sort out a holiday in Europe this year. DH and I enjoy sightseeing and have been on some very successful holidays with Titan, Saga and Riviera. These are now extremely expensive so I wonder whether coach travel would now suit us. Has anyone any experience of Leger?

I had a holiday to Bruge with Leger several years ago, I'd lost my husband 2 years previously and it was my first holiday on my own. I really enjoyed it and made friends with 3 other single travellers. I don't have anything to compare it to though as it was my first coach holiday. I seem to remember it was all very well organised and had 2 very cheerful drivers, it's not too expensive either. We visited a different place each day and you get several hours to look around before you meet up again with your coach. The hotel only did bed and breakfast so we usually found a local place to eat in the evening.

My son and I did the Dambusters historical tour with Leger a few years ago, and it was very good indeed. We had a guide who was a historian who had written a number of books and really made the places we visited come alive. It was well organised, the hotels were comfortable, and it was a friendly trip with nice fellow guests and coach drivers. It wouldn’t have been possible to travel so far independently on one holiday, because we went to a number of different countries.

We had a lovely holiday with Leger many years ago to Lake Garda, Venice and Verona. Everything about it was well organised and the two drivers were excellent. Safety was their priority and we even got an extra half day at the end by the lake as the drivers had exceeded their driving hours and needed to rest the reason being that we had been delayed at Verona until the early hours the night before as the play had been delayed because of rain. We have been with many coach companies but I personally consider Leger to be the best.

Some years ago we went on a Leger holiday to Belgium. There was two drivers who were both, not only excellent drivers but perfect hosts.
The holiday included several excursions, one of which was to Ypres with time allowed for the Menin Gate memorial service - awe inspiring and very moving.

Alternatively, have you considered Rail Discoveries to Europe? They also do some great holidays hosted by Tour Managers.

We went to Spain with Leger about 6 years ago. It was a very good trip except for the hotels. We stayed in 3 altogether. One was very nice but the other 2 weren’t of a good standard. I’m sure things have improved since then and you can research the accommodation on line and look on Trip Advisor.

We have been on several Leger holidays, the most recent to Switzerland and Northern Ireland.

The Luxuria coaches are more expensive, but well worth it for a European holiday, much more comfortable than a regular coach. As someone else said, the hotels can vary, some better than others, but not bad on the whole.

The drivers can make a huge difference, some better than others. We had an excellent one on our Switzerland trip two years ago, and were delighted to get the same one on our Ireland holiday last year.

DH and I enjoy a coach holiday, seems so much easier than airports sometimes.

Thanks for all the comments. I think we may give it a go, although I've just realised it's DH's 75th birthday this year so we might go a bit mad and book a more luxurious break. Leger is definitely still on the list though.
