I didn’t think dogs were allowed in Waitrose 😳

I was shopping in a large Waitrose today in Henley on Thames. Two men were in the store with a large Alsatian, not a guide dog. One of the Store personnel was talking to them and I assumed there were being told to leave the store, however this didn’t happen.

On looking closer at the chap in the woolly hat I realised it was Russell Brand and another chap who I recognised but can’t name.

No one challenged him, maybe they didn’t dare.

RosiesMaw

I hope Russell Brand was muzzled.

😂😂

Bazza Mon 26-Feb-24 12:03:10

Never mind muzzling Brand, I’m all for castration.

Dogs don’t pee indoors nanna.

Wow you have been lucky we had 2 older terriers that regularly marked their territory on the curtains.

NanKate Mon 26-Feb-24 07:12:32

No not Jamie Lang. He was a small guy about 5 foot 9 inches.

There are more ways than one of dealin with a problem like this and the managers should be trained to deal with it.

I am sure that there are also direct lines to Waitrose HQ on a problem like this. As he livrs locally this cannot have been his firsy visit to the store, it must be a problem they are used to.

Frankly, I cannot see that a barney between someone of Brand's negative notoriety, and a Waitrose manager can do other than redound to anything but an upswing in Waitrose's reputation.

I imagine RB is the type of person who would kick off if asked to leave, and make sure he got lots of publicity (probably without mentioning the dog). The store manager may have decided that was not the hill on which to die. I would tend to agree with that.

JaneJudge Sun 25-Feb-24 16:11:15

Jamie Lang?

NanKate Sun 25-Feb-24 15:44:38

I saw the store manager (in a suit so he must have been management) chat to him for a few minutes he walked off and RB stayed 😏. I shall certainly speak or perhaps write to Waitrose voicing my concerns.

More later.

My dogs never peed inside but one did pee down someone's leg once. I was mortified.

Maya1 Sun 25-Feb-24 15:29:36

Another one here with rescues who have never peed indoors, so l agree with GSM. My latest was originally from Romania, in the shelter for at least 8 years and in the 4 months l have had him not one single accident indoors.
I am a huge dog lover but there is no need to take dogs into shops, supermarkets or indoor restaurants. The only exception being guide dogs of course. I never realised that supermarkets would allow dogs on their premises, maybe the employee was star struck by Russell Brand. Shouldn't have been allowed though.

Germanshepherdsmum Sun 25-Feb-24 13:47:17

Thanks Iam. None of my rescues has ever peed indoors - even the latest who, because she had previously been chained up outside (what a life) and the rescue centre said she might not be house trained. I have never known a dog which would behave as Grey describes.

M0nica Sun 25-Feb-24 13:44:08

Did you complain to someone. I would - and have contacted them online later - and gone hughe up the chain if the response was unsatisfactory.

I am in constant wonder at people who recognise famous people in the supermarket. I might meet King Charles in my local supermarket, but I wouldn't realise who he was.

We bought a car through an advert in a local paper and the current owner was famous sports reporter. We got the feeling that this bloke expected us to recognise him, but even when he gave us his name to put on the cheque, it meant nothing to us. We have never watched sport on tv.

It was a week later I happened to see this man mentioned in the main part of a newspaper, with a picture and realised who he was.

MissAdventure Sun 25-Feb-24 13:43:56

In a supermarket full of dogs, I'm pretty sure there would be some widdling going on.
Marking territory, submissive and excitable wees, frightened ones (that would be me!)

Sounds revolting

Iam64 Sun 25-Feb-24 13:39:48

Well, a word of support for GSM - none of my 12 dogs or fosters pee indoors.
Dogs don’t toilet where they live. My latest pup, a lab had one pee indoors at age 12 weeks, handler error I’d answered the phone as he was waking up

Mind you, there are a lot of fur babies around who don’t understand good behaviour

Greyisnotmycolour Sun 25-Feb-24 12:59:59

Dogs pee where they like. A friend's dog recently pee'd in my hall and another one pee'd in my friend's bag when she put it down to take a rest while out walking. I certainly don't want to see dogs in food shops and restaurants becoming the norm.

NanKate Sun 25-Feb-24 11:57:15

None of the names so far ring a bell.

I cannot bear this strutting peacock, however when we had a speaker for the charity OneCan at our WI, he said RB was one of the most generous financial contributors in this area, which surprised us all.

Shelflife Sun 25-Feb-24 11:43:24

Only assistance dogs should be in a supermarket!
This was Russet Brand and I imagine he is a law unto himself - a troubled man and IMO not a man to be trusted.

Ailidh Sun 25-Feb-24 11:42:08

Perhaps the Store Personnel person was afraid that if they challenged RB, he'd ring up and insult their granddaughter on voicemail.....🙄

Dogs don’t pee indoors nanna.

We bought a house once, the previous owners had a small dog and a bar in the corner of the sitting room.
The carpet near the bar smelt of dog pee.
Although it was a very expensive carpet, it had to go. And the bar.
Luckily they took the dog with them.

Doh! 🤦

Just realised I've been reading this entire thread thinking it was Giles Brandreth you were all talking about, and being a bit unnecessarily mean 😔

We stayed at a small hotel in Cherbourg, and the owner's French dog did pipi all up my husband's trousers!

What if several people brought dogs with them ? Dog pee up the aisles ? No, thanks. I would avoid those shops like the plague. I am not talking about well mannered and trained guide dogs of course.

My partner used to have a Guide Dog who he took shopping in Teskers. At the counter as SO was paying, doggo would steal the sweets from the counter underneath..Shouldn't put sweets at doggo nose height!!

Very funny responses on this thread! I will be following it with interest as I hope NanKate will be able to name the small blond man with all the helpful prompts she is given.
