“ Hi Mum! Its Mothers Day this Sunday. We could come round for dinner at yours and invite the others. Love YDS”

JadeOlivia Thu 07-Mar-24 12:10:37

You know what I' d really like ....cakes and bubbly ...

JadeOlivia Thu 07-Mar-24 12:10:03

Not quite up to organizing a meal, how about tea? Everyone bring a cake and I'cll supply the prosecco?

I would love it…I know I’d get a few nice gifts, flowers etc, and husband and I are used to doing a full Sunday roast and feeding everyone anyway. Can’t think of anything I’d like less than being taken out for lunch/dinner on Mother’s Day, as everywhere is too busy and often full of over-excited, noisy, or out of control younger children…been there, done that, and would much prefer a lovely relaxed family day at home.
Since my own mum died many years ago, Mother’s Day has never really been complete for me, and I think it’s just one of those over-hyped occasions anyway. There must be so many lonely, bereaved, or those who wanted to be mums, but weren’t able to be, out there, who find it an upsetting or emotional time.

Depends. Do you enjoy hosting family gatherings and have plenty of resources? I'm sure you can do without a righteous discussion about whether you SHOULD be allowed to enjoy this!

Buttonjugs Thu 07-Mar-24 11:49:36

Thoughtless and rude. I would say yes that’s fine but it’s Mum’s day off so you’ll have to do the catering because I won’t be.

Sandancer62 Thu 07-Mar-24 11:46:13

I used to do all the cooking Mother’s Day bdays ect. Now I book a place to go out for lunch, dinner ect, share the bill, and all have a good time.

Bazza Thu 07-Mar-24 11:40:39

Both of my DD are mothers, so they’re taking me out to breakfast so they can be spoiled themselves later. Hopefully!

sandelf Thu 07-Mar-24 11:37:30

Oh Good Lord - tell them you have plans.

SeaWoozle Thu 07-Mar-24 11:36:53

Mr parents have been invited to my sister's 🥰

Hels001 Thu 07-Mar-24 11:31:20

How lovely see you soon.
I can only dream of getting a text like that! How lucky ate you! Enjoy. Xxx

fluttERBY123 Thu 07-Mar-24 11:31:02

I laughed put loud at this. Love it. I would like that. I might say "Great, looking forward, leave it to you to organise who brings what."

Babamaman Thu 07-Mar-24 11:30:56

Response : oooh that’s lovely - are you bringing an M&S meal deal or ‘Cook’ do great meals - I’ll put the kettle on for you. What cake are you bringing?
I don’t ‘do’ Mother’s Day as my mum is no longer here. My 2 eldest daughters live in France and it’s not Mother’s Day there? And my youngest (40) is working!

polnan Thu 07-Mar-24 11:26:36

Callistemon21 Me Too, metoo! I am even reminding my church fellows, it`s Mothering Sunday, we are not in Americagrin

but I cannot imagine my family suggesting that.. they know I do not have the catering facilities...

TwinLolly Thu 07-Mar-24 11:22:28

Ohhh, I'd love to come to you for a change grin! (As if you haven't read the text properly ;-) )

Mamasperspective Thu 07-Mar-24 11:21:49

Sounds good, what are you cooking? As long as you don't leave the kitchen a mess, I'm happy with whatever x

dragonfly46 Thu 07-Mar-24 11:20:29

I would just ask what time they were arriving. I love it when the family are together as they all muck in and it would make Mother's Day complete.

HeavenLeigh Thu 07-Mar-24 11:19:38

You could do but unfortunately I’m out.🤣🤣

Minerva Thu 07-Mar-24 11:19:10

I’m feeling so lucky. Message from one of my sons: Can you keep the 10th free but don’t tell xxxxxx (his wife) It’s a surprise.

I’ve just had a thought. It’s a bit ambiguous. Perhaps he wants me to have the children while he surprises my lovely daughter in law.

Either way I’m happy.

Goingtobeagranny Thu 07-Mar-24 11:17:15

Littleannie

It's better than the text my son sent me last Mother's Day which said 'why don't you die mother. The sooner you're dead the better as nobody will miss you'.

Aww Littleannie that’s so sad. I have a neurodivergent, drug addict son who has sent me many of the same messages (he’s actually doing great at the moment)…I hope you’re ok xx

Juliet27 Thu 07-Mar-24 11:14:46

I’ve always told my son in Australia that there’s no need for him to arrange a Mother’s Day gift but he says his wife enjoys arranging it. This year he said it’s down to him so standards may slip 🤣

Blackcat3 Thu 07-Mar-24 11:10:39

Lovely, what are you bringing for dinner?!

cossybabe Thu 07-Mar-24 11:10:36

Firstly I would remind them that it is Mothering Sunday, and not Mother's Day (which is American - non-religious)

I would then ask what type of takeaway are they bringing and what wines.

sarahcyn Thu 07-Mar-24 11:08:38

Callistemon21

Mothering Sunday is the day children in service went home to see their mothers (and back to the mother church).

Tell them it's Mothering Sunday, not Nother's Day and ask them what food they're bringing. Tell them you'll lay the table 😁

Hear hear @Callistemon21!

I'm one of those people who says "you mean Mothering Sunday, the 4th Sunday in Lent?" even though I'm not observant any more!

SeaWoozle Mon 04-Mar-24 23:32:41

I'd love to see my two. If it means we're all together then I'm OK with that, though might suggest they bring something! Seeing my parents Wednesday & taking them out for lunch.

SuzieHi Mon 04-Mar-24 21:22:22

“Lovely… bring pudding”
Mine are cooking dinner for us on the Friday as they’re all off for the weekend with the other mothers….‘in-laws’.
