When I hit a particular level of frustration I go straight to the top. A recent problem with the RAC where we got passed from pillar to post for days was resolved in 24 hours after an email to the managing director and UK ops manager.

Try directing your queries to Ken Murphy on Twitter (Twitter@Ken Murphy) with the obvious comment that people can't even get to the shop and see if you get a response. Or you could email him at [email protected] but Twitter is more public. You may just get a similar response of course, that it is 'being dealt with'.

That sounds like the kind of answer you get from an MP (or councillor) when the land involved is privately owned.

I had similar here when there was a long stretch of very dangerously broken paving by shops. A member of the public would assume it was public land and the council’s duty to fix but my local councillor told me the land belonged to another well-known food retailer and it was its duty to fix. Meantime pedestrians, wheelchair users, mobility scooter users, parents with buggies etc were having to walk on a busy road to avoid the wrecked path.

According to the councillor, the arguments over who was responsible had been going on for four years.

Out of exasperation. I took matters into my own hands. I called the head of risk and compliance at the food company. They confirmed the land belonged to the company but they had known nothing about the problem until my call. It was fixed within days.

Quite who the council had been “arguing” with for four years remains a mystery.

These are the senior personnel at Tesco:

Hard to see from this exactly who would be the most senior person to go to about this. Perhaps Byron Grote or Adrian Morris?

About 18 months ago I had a different issue with Tesco that needed someone senior to address.

Getting past Tesco’s general customer service enquiry line was difficult but they did eventually put me in contact with the Customer Service Executive’s office at Tesco. They were exceptionally helpful.

Yesterday, I did actually ring our local newspaper, gave them the details and said I think you should go up and take some photo’s and do a piece on it but whether they will I don’t know🤷‍♀️

Sometimes deciding who is responsible is difficult. And local authorities can’t afford to pay for something which is not their responsibility. Many years ago I dealt with settlement of a long running dispute between a local authority and a water authority regarding responsibility for a watercourse which regularly flooded. To say that the legal position was complicated is an understatement.

And I know a lot of people have got cars, but a lot of people haven’t and we walk to our local Tesco, but I think this could go on for a long time 🙄

Could the fire service pump it out? Don’t know who would foot the bill though.

They probably could, but like you say, who would foot the bill with everybody blaming everybody else?

I would be hoping that Tesco’s notice a sudden drop in sales and start communicating with the council.
