Transgender women and an early state pension.

Transgender women born between 31 October 1953 and 6 November 1953 may be eligible for State Pension from 31 October 2018 to the date of their 65th birthday.

I’m not sure how I feel about this.

Nobody uses born in the wrong body anymore, it was decided it was a really bad message to give to children and young people.
And no still not joining you in your regressive stereotypes.

Well, I’m sorry if I used outdated terminology. I cannot think of a more simple way of expressing it. Please do give me the correct terminology if you’re going to call me out for using the incorrect one please.

Perverts now use trans as an excuse to invade women’s space and perpetrate crimes against them. That is the danger.

Not trans women's fault

Now that's a clear example of an untruth Galaxy because you absolutely know I'm not interested in perpetuating gender norms unless you haven't given me the courtesy of listening to anything I have said for the last few years and just pick and choose what you want to highlight to further your own thinking.

But we all know that gender norms are present and perpetuated across society. If being a woman was typically associated with wearing a potato sack and walking around with a banana on your head, that is likely what trans women would be doing too

Which term would you be happy to acknowledge? Gender dysphoria? Is that an accepted terminology?

It's a bit odd. It only applies to people born within a tiny window (7days) in one year. Are real cis women born within those dates entitled to get pension at 65?

It must affect a minute number of people.
(and yes, if it's different treatment from everyone else's, it's wrong)

This.

Cosy,
I believe we have moved on in accepting people as they are, however accepting should not be to the detriment of other people.

Fair enough! Nothing should be to the detriment of others, but sadly much is.

Just leave them alone

They feel born in the wrong body, they didn't set the standards in society on how to express that verbally or physically so they are doing so within widely accepted social norms WE all perpetuate

And trust me, if you weren't perpetuating social gender norms you would have 0 need to wonder what was in someone's pants by looking at their physical characteristics

Galaxy Tue 05-Mar-24 18:15:54

Or to join in deeply regressive stereotypes such as living as a woman, etc.

grannypiper Tue 05-Mar-24 18:11:03

Cossy I do not struggle at all, if you are at risk of Prostate cancer you are male. I do not care how people live their lives but i will not lie. You can choose to lie and that is up to you but don't ask me to join in.

VioletSky Tue 05-Mar-24 18:02:00

Anyway, as a woman who has not yet reached retirement age I have never had any problem with women's retirement being brought in line with men's. As a woman I am quite as capable of working for just as long as a man.

Also as we all know, people are living much longer lives now and this is placing a burden on everyone, not just in terms of pension but on the NHS and being able as a country to support our elderly.

Families are in crisis trying to provide elderly relatives with good care and I am watching many good friends struggle to provide for their parents needs.

So the pension age is being pushed back and trans people as members of society who work, pay taxes and exist living their ordinary lives are included in these transitions.

Everyone should be equal, in all areas and that is what we need to keep working towards

A couple of weeks ago the BBC bless them produced an article stating that a child had been raped by a woman. Of course it was a man.
The BBC makes the Daily Mail look like the work of Shakespeare but I wouldnt dream of talking about BBC viewers in the way the Daily Mail readers are talked about.

It isn't twisting words

You called me passive aggressive

I am not being unclear at all

Other words exist to express things, that's not word twisting

Stop witch-hunting

VioletSky Tue 05-Mar-24 17:41:54

hmm

Doodledog Tue 05-Mar-24 17:40:36

I didn't say it was unclear, VS. Please stop twisting my words.

What's unclear about that doodledog

It's very clear is it not?

I don't think very highly of these threads at all, that would not be my personal responsibility though

Actually I think media outlets have a huge responsibility to the public and that particular outlet is extremely damaging and outrageous

And I'm entitled to think that as well as thinking that being in line with that sort of thinking is also potentially damaging to vulnerable demographics

But I've said that many times, nothing passive aggressive about it

We all have personal responsibility

There are many direct links between escalations of negative thinking on public spaces and abuse directly received by vulnerable demographics

But I still ultimately blame the media itself

I take it there haven't been many Daily Fail headlines recently and this was the best that could be done to have a general pop at a vulnerable demographic going on gransnet

Of course media outlets have a responsibility etc etc, but that's not what you said, is it?

Seemingly the truth is a lie here on Gransnet. I am not allowed to say that those born with a penis and have gone through male puberty are not female.

We can all struggle with things we don’t really understand. Many trans gender people (male AND female) have struggled all their lives feeling they are trapped in the wrong physical body and truly believing they were born as the wrong gender. They’ve fought long and hard to be recognised legally once they’ve transitioned.

100 years ago gay people were criminalised, bullied, discriminated against, beaten up and called vile names. I thought we’d moved on and become more open and accepting of people “differences”. I was clearly wrong!

Is this chap part of the “vulnerable” demographic of which you speak?

I do hope poor “Mable” has managed to access his pension.^

Oh well done BeverlyJB, so good that your contribution is to find a nasty vile crime against children committed by a cross dresser! Really adds to the original pension debate and trans gender people! Is your opinion that trans gender people are “perverts”?

Passive aggression, VS. The implication (aggression) that those who don't agree with you could only have got their information from a rag such as the DM isn't stated, but implied (passive). As you well know.

AmberSpyglass Please stick to the truth, lying is not a good trait.

This is an example of insulting a gransnetter

I insulted a media outlet
