I have been thinking about this . I have my Alexa device read one of my kindle books each night but given the choice of a voice I would love Kirsty Young or Ken Bruce.
By the wy I am loveing Kirsty's podcasts called " Young Again " on BBC sounds .

Give me soft music any night of the week!

David Mitchell’s ‘The Unbelievable Truth’
Very relaxing good natured panel game.

Stephen Fry. But only reading the Harry Potter series. I’ve had him in my ear for the last few years. He’s the only person I can listen to at bedtime.

I’ve on my third time around of the whole series. I fall asleep so often I’m on the same chapter for weeks. As an insomniac of over 30 years - I have found my jackpot!

I could choose Alan Dale or J K Rowling to listen to - but they don’t have that velvet voice and range of vocal characters that Mr Fry provides

Jim Reeves.

I’m with Nell8 - Alan Bennett reading anything.

Kat2 Sat 09-Mar-24 13:46:04

I find Jerome Flynn’s voice in the Calm app quite soothing.
Bill Nighy mostly though and my mum if she were still here.

Fae1 Sat 09-Mar-24 13:43:04

Alan Rickman for me - preferably reading something romantic !

TanaMa Sat 09-Mar-24 13:29:35

Not a celebrity but an army Major I worked for when much younger - he had a voice like velvet! Otherwise my late DH voice or Nat 'King' Cole, loved by both of us.

Lovely thread and lovely thoughts. Just wanted to say.
I don’t sleep well and listen to audio books. I have to turn some off almost immediately because of the narrator!

elljayaitch Sat 09-Mar-24 12:50:34

Mathew McConaghy - his Southern drawl is so relaxing!😌

Juggernaut Sat 09-Mar-24 12:38:29

Tom Hardy, he's a wee bit (huge amount) young for me, but Phwooarrr!

Bluecat Sat 09-Mar-24 12:27:26

Benedict Cumberbatch. He has a voice like velvet.

The man reading the shipping forecast from my childhood.

MaggsMcG Sat 09-Mar-24 12:25:02

David Tenants natural accent.

Delila Sat 09-Mar-24 12:24:00

Yes, Paddyann, Mr. D’s Irish accent for me too - there’s something about the Irish 😉

Delila Sat 09-Mar-24 12:18:19

Al Ryan, the Irish announcer who often reads the shipping forecast at 12.45 am on Radio 4. Worth staying awake for.
