I have been thinking about this . I have my Alexa device read one of my kindle books each night but given the choice of a voice I would love Kirsty Young or Ken Bruce.
By the wy I am loveing Kirsty's podcasts called " Young Again " on BBC sounds .

Benedict Cumberbatch. He has a voice like velvet.

Tom Hardy, he's a wee bit (huge amount) young for me, but Phwooarrr!

Mathew McConaghy - his Southern drawl is so relaxing!😌

Lovely thread and lovely thoughts. Just wanted to say.
I don’t sleep well and listen to audio books. I have to turn some off almost immediately because of the narrator!

Not a celebrity but an army Major I worked for when much younger - he had a voice like velvet! Otherwise my late DH voice or Nat 'King' Cole, loved by both of us.

Alan Rickman for me - preferably reading something romantic !

I find Jerome Flynn’s voice in the Calm app quite soothing.
Bill Nighy mostly though and my mum if she were still here.

I’m with Nell8 - Alan Bennett reading anything.

Jim Reeves.

Stephen Fry. But only reading the Harry Potter series. I’ve had him in my ear for the last few years. He’s the only person I can listen to at bedtime.

I’ve on my third time around of the whole series. I fall asleep so often I’m on the same chapter for weeks. As an insomniac of over 30 years - I have found my jackpot!

I could choose Alan Dale or J K Rowling to listen to - but they don’t have that velvet voice and range of vocal characters that Mr Fry provides

David Mitchell’s ‘The Unbelievable Truth’
Very relaxing good natured panel game.

I agree petra but in reverse order ie. Richard Burton or Bill Nighy.

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 16:09:52

Joanna Lumley would be nice to listen to.

Suzieque66 Sat 09-Mar-24 16:38:15

Roger Allum ... beautiful voice ...

Practically all men!

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 17:32:21

My ex had a fabulously rich voice.
Like dark chocolate.

grandtanteJE65 Sat 09-Mar-24 17:39:05

I prefer my queenie cat who has a deep, loud contralto purr - if she was human she would have the right voice to sing "Qui sedes ad dexteram patrem" from Bach's Mass in B minor.

KaazaK Sat 09-Mar-24 17:40:13

Cillian Murphy. His voice reading on the Calm app used to send me to sleep in minutes! Fabulous!

phantom12 Sat 09-Mar-24 17:48:50

David Essex or Mike Nesmith from the Monkees.
