I have been thinking about this . I have my Alexa device read one of my kindle books each night but given the choice of a voice I would love Kirsty Young or Ken Bruce.
By the wy I am loveing Kirsty's podcasts called " Young Again " on BBC sounds .

Does anyone use Calm? Lots of voices reading lots of stories. As well as meditation, music and natural sounds. I’ve learnt a lot as I prefer the non fiction tales but rarely get to hear the ending! I used to prefer male voices but now find I gravitate to females with a slight Indian accent.

Nobody famous but just my late husband talking gently to me and holding my hand. That’s just a dream though.

David Davis from Children's Hour. You can still hear him on YouTube.

*Ixion*. Seeing as it's you, ok. I'll share him. 😂

Thank you!
We must be careful not to wear him out.

Alec Guiness - what a wonderful voice! It would be a pity to fall asleep and miss him speaking.

Available on BBC Sounds for three more days.

And no classics music. I’m surprised how often people choose eight records and not one classical piece.
I’m afraid they go down in my estimation.
I would have pop too, so not prejudiced.

Michael Crawford singing 'Music of the Night' from Phantom of the Opera ❤

Did you watch the Parkinson interview with him that was repeated on ( I think) BBC4 last night?

Casdon Sun 10-Mar-24 12:13:55

Goodness gillyjp, I’ve seen Phantom of the Opera, and that would give me nightmares!

David Olusoga, I could listen to him reading a shopping list......................

That's the one I've been trying to remember!

Also there is a chap who draws lovely little cartoons on YouTube who speaks the voices really gently and many people have commented on his voice. If you dont mind an American accent, have a look. I'll put a link in the next post.

Richard Burton without a doubt. And any other welsh male voices. For music: Matt Munro singing "On Days Like These"

Paul O'Grady had a nice speaking voice

Davida1968 Sat 09-Mar-24 18:46:16

Terry Wogan. Lovely dulcet Irish tones and still very much missed.

phantom12 Sat 09-Mar-24 17:48:50

David Essex or Mike Nesmith from the Monkees.

KaazaK Sat 09-Mar-24 17:40:13

Cillian Murphy. His voice reading on the Calm app used to send me to sleep in minutes! Fabulous!

I prefer my queenie cat who has a deep, loud contralto purr - if she was human she would have the right voice to sing "Qui sedes ad dexteram patrem" from Bach's Mass in B minor.

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 17:32:21

My ex had a fabulously rich voice.
Like dark chocolate.
