We have a late season heatwave after another coolish Summer. Wouldn’t mind but it doesn’t cool off much at night. Fire danger is very high and, having experience with bushfires, it always makes me nervous. A long weekend so at least most won’t have to work.

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 12:45:31

Do you have air conditioning, nanna?

Do most people have it?

nanna8 Sat 09-Mar-24 12:48:04

Downstairs we have it but not upstairs. Most would have it and all the cars do now. I will have to drag out the old fans!

When we lived in Australia, we had it all over the house but the noise from the units was dreadful.

I expect (hope!) they are better now!

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 13:27:14

Thank you both.
You see, I'm planning to marry an Australian man.
I don't know him, or even anyone Australian, so it's a very long term plan. grin

I am broken- hearted for you! grin
I would give my right arm for an hour of sunshine!

What's he look like, MissA? Very tall, tanned and muscular with a Bush hat adorned with corks?

SueDonim Sat 09-Mar-24 13:49:01

It’s Hugh Jackman, isn’t it, MissAdventure, or one of the Hemsworth brothers?? 😂

I’m sending you some of our icy wind, Nanna8. It could cut a body in half today. 🥶

kittylester Sat 09-Mar-24 13:51:46

Er, sorry, Hugh Jackman is mine!

LOUISA1523 Sat 09-Mar-24 14:01:07

I'm shopping in Liverpool....the wind coming off the river mersey is biting .....there is some sun but not an ounce of warmth from it

I feel for you Nanna8. it must be very scary having the real threat of fire. I remember being in SouthAfrica and watching an enormous fire approaching over the mountain near where we lived, and the relief when the helicopters managed to divert it from the houses. Stay safe and well

And once again she’s back😉

Bush fires are very scary nanna8, I sympathise. When I started working in Sydney there were bush fires around. I looked out of the window on a glorious day and the sun was bright red. One of the Aussies explained that it was the result of the bush fires raging somewhere nearby. You're very welcome to some of the north easterly winds we've got - my fingers were blue this morning.

MiniMoon Sat 09-Mar-24 15:21:43

I'm at Dumfries House. The tour was very interesting, the ambient temperature perfect and lunch good.
The walk around the garden cold, with what my mother would call a thin wind, the sort that blows right through you!
I too would love some warm sunshine. Our winter has been grey and miserable.

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 15:31:21

Brawny and dark, with a lovely beard.
Hairy chested and a real man's man.

(In my dreams!)

Juliet27 Sat 09-Mar-24 15:39:29

Any good MissA ?

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 15:41:35

Phwoar!!!

That'll do nicely. wink

SueDonim Sat 09-Mar-24 22:04:56

You could try Rip Wheeler from Yellowstone for size, MissA grin

nanna8 Sat 09-Mar-24 22:14:02

Depends on the age group. There’s a lot of moth eaten over 60 s round here! 🪰

Tonight nothing on TV so watched a couple of episodes of Darby and Joan, set in Queensland Australia, scenery looked stunning.
Series so so, easy watching but thought actor Bryan Brown aged quite well.

I’d recommend going to a Naked Wines road tour wine tasting, MissA. DD1 and I started off very seriously marking the wines on our score sheets. By the end, and just possibly after rather too many samples had been taken, we were marking the winemakers who manned the stalls. One father and son pair from Australia got particularly high marks from us. Sadly we didn’t get a photo.

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 23:13:18

grin
I'd love to have been a fly on the wall, Maggie.

MissAdventure Sat 09-Mar-24 23:19:14

Yes, Rip looks a nice young man.
Also, moth eaten oldies are fine.

I've watched too many emergency ER tv I think.

The Australian men stagger in, having driven 20 miles, and say "well mate, I felt a bit of a sting, looked down, and my leg had come off.
So I put it in the back of me truck to see if you can do anything with it". smile

Nanna8, what province are you in? Forest fires are horrible, I hope you don't have any nearby.
