Good grief! There's so much over-analysis and various "experts" giving opinions you would think that someone had revealed that they had conclusive proof that the Mona Lisa was faked.
It just seems to be the ONLY story at the moment - and I'm tired of it!

Mollygo Tue 12-Mar-24 11:34:51

Easily. The Princess of Wales is currently unable to take on public duties. The reason for this is personal and she does not wish it to be shared with those outside her close family.

Who cares? Doesn’t make any diff either way.

It does if more and more people do not believe what the rf say.

I dont think this on it's own, will be enough to in any way bring it down.

The press and news desks would have accepted this ?

Mollygo Tue 12-Mar-24 11:59:03

No, Anniebach and neither would the great British public. But that’s not her fault. It’s the fault of the press, the new desks, and the great British public, for wanting to know more than she is willing to share and being keen to deny her the right to any privacy.
C’est la vie!

Frankly, the Princess of Wales could have had her operation without it being made public knowledge. Medical staff are bound by confidentiality. It isn’t as if she was going to be treated on a shared ward. It was planned treatment. She will have been given priority and privacy. The Royal Family^ chose^ to make this public. And yes, we have media intrusion and the tabloids are voracious but we also have legal injuctions and super injunctions when the media overstep or are likely to overstep its bounds.

Do tell how Catherine missing from public duties for several months could have been explained

Do tell how Catherine missing from public duties for several months could have been explained

... precisely.

Which is probably why the surgery was announced.

To curb speculation... hmm

Clearly, that is not enough for some people.

Anniebach Tue 12-Mar-24 12:02:35

Exactly Mollygo , the criticism of her because she chose to keep her surgery private, unbelievable

this thread will run and run with repetitive comments same with the same names keeping it going 'fighting' each other.

why not read the news and pick another discussion. this one's been done to death.

Doesn't this apply to other topics as well?

They run until posters lose interest and move on to something else.

... and then, the 'something else' gets done to death.

Isn't that basically the nature of social media?

Anniebach wrotes: Do tell how Catherine missing from public duties for several months could have been explained.

That is the job of her Communications Secretary.

A three month absence could have been managed - no different to taking a back seat in the later stages of pregnancy and after childbirth.

It is only the media and Kensington Palace that makes what she does public news.

Apart from major public events e.g the Coronation and without recourse to the internet, can anyone list five of her public engagements last year?

She does has a busy calendar but most of it is PR and probably goes unreported other than in Court Circular.

I say probably as I don’t read tabloids therefore much of what the Royal Family does passes me by. If it wasn’t for the fact that the Princess’s admission to hospital was announced publicly, I wouldn’t have known about it nor would I have missed her absence from public life. I imagine that is true for many people.

She did not keep her surgery private. It was announced publicly by Kensington Palace on 17 January 2024.

Several other threads on topical issues are available.

It's not compulsory to join in any particular thread 🙂

What a shameful species we are.
What happened to supporting each other , befriending each other , very sad to realise that this will never happen.
I believe it says in the Bible ‘ let he /she who is without sin cast the first stone, time to put the stones down ladies .

Jaberwok Tue 12-Mar-24 12:33:16

The Princess of Wales disappears from public view for 3+ months without a truthful explanation? Surely that would have fuelled heaven knows what conspiracy theories, even that she was murdered by her husband! Apart from the truth, what on earth could anyone say that would seem even remotely believable. Also any cobbled up reason, that is, a huge lie, would simply not be true and would risk being exposed at some future date, if not immediately. Doesn't sound like a goer to me.

Pregnancy and childbirth are always made public, you gave no example of how absent from public duties for several months could be
explained

Perhaps she can allow a profesional photographer to take the big important pics ... this photo was supposed to put aside the uncertainty about Katherine's health ... but it has done the opposite ... Eventually the reason for her operation will come out and its all a big Hoo Ha for nothing ... The King gave us certain facts about his illness and I think she could have opened up a bit more on her illness ...

The poor woman has had major surgery, is probably not feeling or looking her best and decided to mock up a photo for Mothers Day. What is wrong with that? The UK press are awful in that they make this story front page news. There are a lot of worst things going on in the world and I think they should leave her alone.

mar76 Wed 13-Mar-24 11:17:39

What's wrong not wearing wedding rings. I take mine off as soon as I get home.

Stillness Wed 13-Mar-24 11:25:40

I think it was a ridiculous and obviously doctored photo and I don’t even think Kate’s subsequent comments were necessarily from her. Don't know why she can’t just briefly appear at a family event so that everyone can see she’s still there! It would dispel a lot of the rumours and she’s perfectly entitled to not do public engagements until she’s ready to.

Ziplok Wed 13-Mar-24 11:26:40

I feel so sorry for the Princess of Wales. She can’t do right for doing wrong. The press are like vultures, picking and picking and making 2+2= 92.
I, for one, have no wish to know exactly what procedure she has had done - it’s not my business. If it were me, I’d be exactly the same.
It was said at the time of the surgery that she would be doing no public engagements for 3 months to allow for recovery. We should be satisfied with that and leave the poor woman alone - all this speculation and front of news coverage will be doing her recovery no good at all. Leave her be, media, and concentrate on the real news happening right now.

If King Charles can open up about , what I assume is a rather embarrassing affliction, I don’t see why the POW can’t - just my opinion

Caleo Wed 13-Mar-24 11:33:30

Kate is not an ordinary private person but is a future Queen. She or her publicity team should have know better than to submite a doctored photo for publication

The point is that that particular photo was probably harmless, but a principle of a free press is the source must not be changed so that the public is unaware of the truth , or even misled on a grand scale.

I suspect it was a more embarassing one.

Cancer, though terrible, isnt always as embarrasing, as some other medical conditions.

I have a bit of one now[not needing an operation I hope].
Not telling the world for now.
If I get more desperate I may write about it on GN.
I am not even sure it is embarassing. But it is unsightly. Well to some people.

That is the problem.
It has ended up opening a can of worms for some.

Some dont know quite what to believe.
I was believing virtually everything I was told.
Now. I am not quite so sure.

Care to tell us some intimate details of any health problems you've had, along with your real name and location?

I guess people need to get a life.
