Good grief! There's so much over-analysis and various "experts" giving opinions you would think that someone had revealed that they had conclusive proof that the Mona Lisa was faked.
It just seems to be the ONLY story at the moment - and I'm tired of it!

Some posters are continually making sniping remarks about women who complain of harassment as asking for it, bitching about Meghan, Diana, Fergie, but somehow making any negative comments about Catherine’s photo is being unsupportive of women. Either the RF are in the public eye and will be gossiped about, as they are frequently on here, or they cash it in and go and live on Capri. They aren’t forced into this role, they aren’t divine beings, they have a choice. I have no personal interest in the RF , they are an anachronism as is the House of Lords and the sooner the institution of monarchy withers away the better, but if you want one they are there to be photographed and discussed it comes with the territory. I made the shallow remark about the cannula to show the level of gossip I’ve heard over the last day or two. She just had surgery it wouldn’t be surprising if she still had the marks. So what - it might have been one reasonable reason for the photoshopping. Yes, let’s stop the gossip, but guess what next time she appears in a photo there will be headlines gushing about her outfit or how good she looks etc

As far as I am aware, every individual in the UK has a right to privacy about their medical history.

I am always informed by the NHS about who will be able to access my data, and with whom it will be shared. I assume it's exactly the same if you are being treated privately.

Being endlessly papped by the media, either legitimately or without consent, during walks to church, attending this or that event, appearing at State functions, is - yes - all part of the territory that goes with the job. The public and therefore the media have an insatiable appetite for all-things-Royal which, I'm sure, the RF are aware of.

But they, surely, should have the same right as every other person in the UK when it comes to medical matters. They should have complete autonomy over their medical history.

I too believe the RF are an anachronism, but that doesn't alter the fact that I also believe Charles and Catherine should be allowed to determine how much information they share about their conditions - like everyone else. Only those directly affected need to know the details.

What "right" is being abused by the RF in not sharing the intimate details of their condition with the general public? And by what right are the public demanding access to it? Where is it written that members of the RF are obliged to share their medical data with the nation?

Suggestions that giving out more details will put an end to the speculation are nonsense. If these two members of the RF share more details - the more the public will speculate and hypothesise as they pick over the further details that are released, because their appetite is voracious and unappeasable.

this thread will run and run with repetitive comments same with the same names keeping it going 'fighting' each other.

why not read the news and pick another discussion. this one's been done to death.

FYI lemsip, this is the first time I have commented on this subject, so no not repetitive. My only post here, check it out.
Discussing is not fighting. How bizarre.

people are more concerned on how a photograph was photoshopped, and used to humiliate a lady who thus far has not put a step wrong.
This. 👏 👏 👏
It was reported on BBC news last night that genuine questions needed to be answered. No, not genuine, bloody nosey!

Anniebach Tue 12-Mar-24 09:57:09

Same for me Joseann I cannot defend lies

In the other thread and previous ones there are endless criticisms of Diana and Meghan, as far as I am aware they are women, what people mean is no criticism of women they like, I am afraid the claims of sisterhood dont really wash.

Since the inevitable comparisons are being made, I've said on here, a boring number of times, that there are things I admire in Meghan. What I disliked is her lying in the interviews, and that won't leave me for a long while.
Conversely, Catherine offered a swift apology yesterday and took responsibility for the cock up.
Time to move on.

So true Dickens many comments have really upset me, not
as a royalist but a woman , someone said ‘we deserve more’ , what blood ? Women talking and criticising a woman for such shallow reasons.

Oh, this is so right. If only the same had applied to Meghan….

I just hope that the Princess of Wales resists the temptation to read the newspapers and social media today and does not see what is being said. If, and it’s a big if, the newspapers were right and she had to make an appearance in a car to dispel rumours about her health, it is a disgrace. As for demanding that we see the negatives………. Have people gone mad, there are atrocities all over the world, the country is in an economic mess and an election is looking, yet people are more concerned on how a photograph was photoshopped, and using to humiliate a lady who thus far has not put a step wrong.

Sparklefizz Tue 12-Mar-24 09:34:13

Even Scobie jumped in to criticise.

Is that an order, Bluebelle dearie?

Looking at the papers and media it's incredible how this has blown up. What a storm in a teacup. All this talk about how it's destroyed the Royal family's credibility!? What nonsense. Poor Catherine.

I didn't even know what the fuss was about. I'd heard about a photo being "changed" but nothing more. I'm not a Royalist at all and I don't care that much, BUT this time around folk just need to leave her alone. What a fuss.

Dickens Tue 12-Mar-24 00:54:45

I understand what you say, Dickens and while I have no particular interest in the Monarchy, I do think that the Royal Family as a whole needs to consider its relationship with the public and the media over how it handles health stories. While I respect the family’s right to privacy, they do send out mixed messages that you yourself have touched on.

King Charles made it very public that he was being treated for a prostate condition but when it was discovered that he had cancer, the type of cancer was and has been concealed.

With the Princess of Wales, it has been reported that her surgery was not cancer-related but the precise nature of her illness has been concealed.

Isn’t it a fact that when famous people are open about their health conditions, it creates positive public awareness? Surely, King Charles’s openness about his prostate condition would have encouraged more men to come forward to be checked. So why not be open about whatever kind of cancer he has for the same reasons?

Prince William has been very open about his own struggles with mental health and PTSD and in doing so has encouraged other men to be more open and to seek help.

It seems to me that the length of the Princess’s hospital stay and the length of her recovery suggests something quite serious so might that not make her a candidate to become an ambassador for any charity which supports her condition?

The Royal Family are public servants after all and do have a duty to the public.

There is also the question of owning one’s own story. Be open about something and after a few days it ceases to be news rather than creating weeks and months of media and social media speculation which this photo farrago has only served to increase. Nobody is ever going to be able to quench the public and media thirst for stories about the Royal Family so why stoke the fire?

Nobody is ever going to be able to quench the public and media thirst for stories about the Royal Family so why stoke the fire?

So Charles and Catherine - in order to sate the public and media interest - give a little more information. Charles indicates what type of cancer he has, and Catherine tells us why she had to have abdominal surgery. Even though they might rather not.

I've had abdominal surgery - it has led to all kinds of 'issues' that I'd rather keep to myself which, fortunately, I can, because there's no one demanding to know all the details.

The RF may be public servants - but like all public servants, they have a right to privacy and I really don't believe it is part of their 'duty' to divulge their medical ailments to a degree that they are not comfortable with. Charles was obviously comfortable with mentioning his prostate problem, but clearly does not want to have to talk about, or be questioned about, his cancer diagnosis.

If he were to tell us what type of cancer he had - or Catherine give the reason for her surgery - I am pretty sure there are those who would want to know even more details, and there would be continued speculation about the condition / disease that they'd contracted. No, I just cannot accept that idle curiosity should be pandered to.

Some things are sacred - what people know about your body and its functioning should be one of them.

Louella12 Mon 11-Mar-24 23:50:58

It's awful. I feel for the children. They've had to go to school and something is bound to be said.

It's just cruel and unnecessary.

Catterygirl Mon 11-Mar-24 23:33:40

Maybe the expensive looking engagement ring was in the safe. What a fuss and hoo ha. Hope the press leave her alone to recover.

Yes, I agree with you Annie and Dickens.
Women criticising other women? What’s that all about? Why did women fight so hard for liberation? It is Catherine’s right to disclose as much or as little of her private medical information as she wishes.
I actually think the media are at fault here too because they’ve whipped the whole none story up into a storm.

Sarnia Mon 11-Mar-24 22:57:43

A woman who chose not to disclose why she needed surgery,
She has been criticised ever since and by women here and by the media, it’s so cruel, so wrong

Absolutely. A photo taken by Prince William to show his wife and children on Mother's Day. Kate had a try to edit it. so what? It's their photo. She is entitled to privacy about her recent surgery. I hope she continues to keep it to herself and not feel she has to bow to the nosy amongst us who feel they have a right to know. They don't!

vintage1950 Mon 11-Mar-24 22:46:01

The poor girl should simply be left alone to recover. Gossip has turned into an industry these days.

Blis1234 Mon 11-Mar-24 22:39:58

So, this scrutiny and publicity over a family photo is what today’s reporters class as journalism? Seriously? Does it really matter if it was photoshopped? I think these so called reporters need to stop behaving like playground bullies and go out into the big wide world and report on something a little more serious?

granjan66 Mon 11-Mar-24 21:55:53

I wish speculations and innuendos about all this would stop. Just leave Katherine to recuperate.
