I nipped into Thornton’s in the square downstairs earlier and the lady in the shop said they had been asked to let all customers know that the chocolate gingers are being phased out. She had one or two boxes in her stockroom but no more orders will be processed. I shall miss them! … I bought 3 bags whilst I was there.

The Aldi dark chocolate and ginger chocolates and cookies are lovely.

Anyone else going to miss them?

I love dark chocolate ginger, but don't usually buy Thornton's one. My son sent me a delicious box which I have scoffed for Mother's Day, The advantage is that I am the only one in the family who likes ginger.

Quite a few health food shops and green grocers sell crystallised ginger covered in dark chocolate. Very delicious.

I'm not a fan of ginger but I am sad for you

We have to take joy in life wherever we find it

Hope you find an alternative

Or start a petition and I'll sign lol

We have the ā€˜Ringtons Man’ come every fortnight and as well as tea and coffee they have some lovely biscuits and chocolates. We bought some delicious chocolate gingers at Christmas but not sure if they sell them all year round. If you don’t have Ringtons in your area, you can order online.

I've never shopped in Thorntons but buy Green & Blacks Ginger Dark Chocolate.

My dear old mum loved chocolate gingers. I used to get her some every Christmas. How I miss her , even after all these years …….x

It does seem to be hard to find a nice box of chocolates now, though my daughter bought me a box of Lindt based on the flavours of desserts for my birthday which were mostly nice. She used to love Milk Tray but last time I bought them for her they were really awful, less variety and really sickly.
I'm not keen on caramels, toffees, pralines or so called fruit creams and would rather have a tiny box of something hand made and delicious than most of the commercially available brands.

I believe that there is a shortage of ginger, our local restaurant told us that their ice cream supplier was no longer making their ginger and honey ice cream, though it was very popular. I checked online and there are a few reasons for the shortage apparently.

First world problem, get a llife. Give those in Ukraine, Palestine and Israel a thought, those people are freeing and starving and sleeping out under the stars because their homes have been bombed.

So these are the only things that we must focus our minds on?

I'm quite sure we are all fully aware of the atrocities being carried out, but we do have lives of our own. I don't think any of us pitching up in Ukraine, Palestine or Israel offering our heartfelt support is going to do much to help.

We are able to have concerns for other issues, as well as our own problems, be they large or small.

Thorntons have been taken over byFerraro - hence many favourite chocolates being discontinued. We found this out at Christmas looking for their boxes of toffees in a Thorntons shop. The assistant said just plain toffee was being manufactured in small bags. She also told us that many chocolate favourites are being phased out . This is what happens when large companies take over unfortunately.

Ferrero took over Thorntons 9 years ago and have been struggling ever since. Most of the shops have closed as they have concentrated with selling online and in supermarkets. My nearest Thorntons is so depressing l don't go in.

You had me in panic mode but when I saw what it was no worries here can’t stand them lol did love my Turkish chocolate and that was stopped still never found anything similar in a bar of chocolate lol

I felt exactly the same when the Terry's Neopolitan chocolates were discontinued. I knew they were popular many years ago because every time I popped into the supermarket, they had been sold out, yet they were discontinued. It is happening frequently now, more and more favourites are no longer being manufactured and I wonder why.

My favourites are Border Biscuits Chocolate & Ginger which are still Widley available.

Ooh, yes!

Curlywhirly Sun 17-Mar-24 13:22:11

As an alternative, try Lidl's Dark Chocolate Ginger biscuits - they're gorgeous! They are quite thin and not too 'biscuity'.

Amalegra Sun 17-Mar-24 13:04:50

I dislike ginger but my mum’s favourite was chocolate ginger (Terry’s). It wasn’t easy to get but she would have been most upset if it hadn’t been available as it was the only chocolate she really liked!

My favourite too but the last few years since Terry's disappeared I have made my own

HurdyGurdy Sun 17-Mar-24 12:01:27

Oh no. I could literally weep. I love their chocolate gingers.

I moved to them after I couldn't get Terry's chocolate gingers any more, and the Thornton's ones are lovely. My mum used to get me a box of Terry's chocolate gingers every year for Christmas. She died in a September, and it was at the Christmas that year, that it really hit home to me that she was really gone, as there were no chocolate gingers under the tree for me.

missdeke Sun 17-Mar-24 11:38:52

Anything made of ginger is fine for me, love dark chocolate ginger but as I rarely see the Thorntons one I shan't miss it particularly. When I was a child every Christmas my dad used to buy a jar of candied ginger in syrup and a pot of cream just for him and me. The others didn't like it but ginger always reminds me of my dad.

GrammarGrandma Sun 17-Mar-24 11:06:40

I like chocolate ginger, if the chocolate is dark. I eat only dark chocolate.

nanna8 Sun 17-Mar-24 10:58:04

Aldi choc is the best - and it’s cheap.
