Good afternoon Kitchen friends. We have been busy today with shopping, laundry, bathroom cleaning, etc. The burglar alarm has been serviced and battery changed. MrB has been to a local farmhouse cheese maker so it’s cheese on toast for tea later. I have been keeping fit by going up and down the stairs several times, mainly because I forgot something . I have been counting my blessings and feel grateful that I am still able to do these things. I really don’t have anything to moan about 😎

Yiayia what a terrible shock that must have been. I hope the scans go well and the reason for your DH’s anaemia is soon diagnosed. The NHS is at its best at times like this. Massive virtual hug for you and your family ♥️

No one in the village knows the cat we call Sweetie Pie. He does look well. He never ever makes a sound. We cannot get too close...just close enough to place the bowls of food on a mat within reach.

I note that our kitchen will, in the not too distant future be closing. I shall keep a close watch and prepare for the opening of our new gathering place.

Sweetie Pie does indeed look very well for a feral cat, are you sure he`s not spinning you a yarn Soop?
Billy`s medical scheme covers 2 check ups per year, his flea and worming medication, and some, not all, other medications.
I`m beginning to feel very old now, with 8 great grandchildren and another on the way!

Thank you for the beautiful photographs. I have two to share with you. The "chick" seated in the cleft of the branches, we thought might be a thrush. However, a blackbird feeds it. So we guess it is a blackbird. Sweetie Pie, our visiting feral cat, has been absent for a few weeks. This morning, he graced us with a breakfast time visit, ate heartily and departed with as much as a meow.

I am just reading my novel with my after lunch cuppa and a character said a phrase I had forgotten.
“ everything is fine until it isn’t “
I think that sums up life for many of us presently.

YiaYia, I'm so sorry to hear that your DH is ill, thank goodness you managed to get home quickly and safely. There will be other holidays. Hoping and praying that your DH will be diagnosed and treated promptly. Thinking of you both. 💕🙏

The funeral this morning was for the 39 year old daughter of my brother's childhood friend and his wife. A beautiful Mass, the Church was full, so many young people. Our new P.P. and Deacon spoke very movingly about the young woman, may she rest in peace. I was honoured to participate in the Liturgy by reading the Bidding Prayers. May God bless and comfort her poor parents and all who loved her. So very sad.

Annsixty, I absolutely agree with your wise words. This Kitchen is indeed a blessing.

Yiayia what a shock for you. DH had the same thing early last year. They did all the tests but never found the source of the bleeding. The cause they think was a particular blood thinner which he’d been given for heart failure. They stopped that and after a couple of transfusions he was fine.
Of course you are worried but they are on it now and will keep monitoring him. Hope your DH feels better soon.

A friend had similar anaemia results and it was bleeding from a stomach ulcer.
After treatment she recovered well and I pray that your H will do the same once diagnosed.

I am aware that some of you are living through very worrying and difficult times.

NannyG...the sea is my go to when I need to take stock of what's happening in my world... Many times a I've walked along the south beach in Tenby with the wind blowing a houli and tears pouring down my face ....and always it brought me a kind of peace. I'm glad it did the same for you. You and your family are in my prayers.

LlfL...fleas like nits in children throw me into an orgy of checking every 5 minutes...industrial strength treatments ( not really but you get the picture) and anything that has come into contact with them being boil washed into an inch of it's life.
I didn't post after I came out of hospital last week as I was a real Mrs Grumpy...I don't think the morphine helped so I stopped it and am now on Codeine ( GrandmaB.... Thoughts of your little GS and his predicament are on my mind!!!!!)
My knee was and is very painful but I refuse to give in and the washing was done within a few hours of being home and lots of planting has been done ( Albeit with lots of sit downs in between). I couldn't take the final 1st Communion prep class as I looked too scary...( Think wicked witch of the North in the Wizard of Oz and you'll get a good idea of the colour of my face) Today is day 10 and the bruises are fading now...I just look as if I've been in the sun wearing sunglasses and had a smack on the jaw too🤣🤣🤣 I'm off to get my hair done( I'm being driven as I'm not allowed to drive yet). Hopefully I'll be transformed into something that sort of resembles a human again...I know it's only a civil ceremony on the 27th but I'd like DOH to vaguely recognise the person he's marrying.

A friend's Dh approaching 80 had severe anaemia recently with similar symptoms. He also had an iron infusion. The hosp thought it was an internal bleed and he had a colonoscopy and gastrocopy, but neither showed anything suspicious. He has now vastly improved.
I hope your DHs tests go well and are helpful in diagnosis. Best wishes.

my DH is very poorly with heart failure...
I hope you get some answers after the scans etc and can put your minds at rest.
I have to say the support I've received on this lovely thread has lifted my spirits..... Stay strong and dig deep.

I used to pay £11 per month for each cat. It didn’t cover the annual checkup or de-flea etc., or inoculations. It basically covered emergencies. So I stopped paying and a few months later Milo got in a fight and the bill was huge. They are now nearly 14 (72 in human years) so I imagine insurance would be quite high.

I didn’t mean insurance - that’s astronomical (just gone up from £74 to £90+ per month) but then, so are vets bills. Rosie’s dental procedure (3 teeth out) recently was just over £800.
But the “Health Club” probably breaks even.
Yiayia how wise of you to come home - and lucky you were able to. I hope his iron infusion (and possibly also a unit or two of blood?) will make a difference and that they get to the bottom of the problem.
NannyG4 this is a hard time for you I hope you can recharge your batteries with the GC and have something to make you smile too.
A trip to M&S today for a cuppa and a change of scene with a friend who has just lost her 51-year old daughter. She is still numb but being very competent and brave- I am worried about what will/may happen when the funeral is over and the adrenaline subsides.

Hello Soop and dear Kitcheners.It very early but I’ve been awake for hours.

We had to leave Corfu 2 weeks early and arrived home on Sunday evening.DH became very unwell struggling to breathe and couldn’t even walk more than a few steps.We spent all day yesterday in A&E.At first they thought it was heart failure as he has a heart condition.However, it seems he has severe anemia causing the shortness of breath,this has happened over the last few months and they are concerned he has a bleed somewhere.He was given an iron infusion and has to go back on Friday so see if it’s helped or not!Also scans and scopes in the next 2 weeks.

We are both very scared and shocked and as SueD said ‘Life can turn on a sixpence.’
The NHS have been brilliant as have my sons giving support but,it helps to off load a bit on here as I know many are going through similar.Take care .

It's late but GN is once again full of weird threads.
So I'm keeping safe here in the kitchen.

I went for a walk on the beach this morning... wet and wild, but loved it, I stepped straight out of bed into my clothes and off I went ... Nobody knows me here... Who cares ! So uplifting ...
