Balmoral visit ..anyone interested?

There are theatre and opera tickets that cost more than that. I would think this was a good experience for a RF enthusiast for a special occasion like a significant birthday or an anniversary. As a mobility impaired non driver I wont be going.

Yes I knew it was one or the other. I was an English heritage member so didn't pay to get in. We used to change which one we were members of but don't bother now. It's fabulous I'd definitely go back.

Aveline My DHs late uncle who worked at Balmoral lived in Karim cottage.

We live near to Sandringham, naturally knowing people who work there. Fascinating place, especially for horsey outdoor types.

Our acquaintances, he sadly passed this last year, lived on the estate, he was in charge of the Royal Stud. We loved his showing us the special equine breeding, their lovely cottage, and the lambs.

I've often wanted to hire a cat when on holiday. In first reading I thought it was a thing but realised it was a typo.
My DHs late uncle who worked at Balmoral lived in Karim cottage. It had been built for the Munshi Queen Victoria's rather dodgy Indian tutor. It was a lovely wee house, vaguely oriental but very Victorian.

We holidayed on Loch Ness last summer. Flew to Inverness from Luton, hired a cat and stayed at Fort Augustus and travelled quite widely.

If you consider the cost of a cruise - and how far people will fly to join them, not to mention flying to almost any destination outside the UK for a holiday, flying to Scotland for a holiday, and then hiring a car to tour, hardly seems an adventurous 'pushing the boat out' type holiday.

You can fly to Scotland very cheaply using the budget airlines. Both Inverness and Aberdeen have lovely small airports, easy car hire and/or buses into the cities. Then bus to Balmoral. It is scenic whatever the weather.

Yes i would love to visit and despite the fact its a lot of money for the ticket , I would consider it to be worthwhile.

I would love to go-definitely on my wish list as it looks beautiful. I love visiting Royal properties both here and abroad as I find it really brings history to life. Top of my list so far was when I visited some of the palaces in Russia. Breathtaking! There were more on my list for a future visit which I sadly doubt will ever take place now. So hoping for Balmoral one day!

The 201 bus stops about 50 metres away from the entrance to Balmoral! Just walk cross the bridge over the Tay, go past the war memorial and it’s right in front of you.

Like any stately home, I would visit it if \i was in the area. There are plenty of other non-royal stately piles I have not visited because they are not in areas I have holidayed in - for a variety of reasons

Could be interesting, however quite costly and a long distance. I'm sure those with tickets will have a lovely visit, if they live close.

Doubtless it's very nice, at the lesser prices, we've been to many stately homes, though less so since leaving the Nat Trust (after it morphed into the National Wokeist Barmpot Trust without any mandate!).

And Scotland is great, if you're lucky enough to hit some of the 23 or or so nice weather days they have each year?! BUT - sadly it's just too far away, like Cornwall. We'd probably need to fly up there (no dearer than the wretched train!).

It's English Heritage. We took my Dad there last August Bank Holiday, it's really lovely.
There was a traditional Punch and Judy show down on the private beach!

Yes, we went years ago.
I didn't know then that some of my ancestors worked on the estate.
I think the house they lived in is let as a holiday cottage now.

Do not see why anybody should have to pay to visit somewhere we all pay to maintain through our taxes and that a few royals have at their disposal.

It's a private home.

Get the kettle on - I'm happy to pay a fiver to have a look round yours as long as there's tea and cake 🙂

You assumed the house was part of the crown estate, when it has always been clearly in the public domain that this house, like Sandringham, The castle of Mey and Highgrove are private houses and have nothing to do with the state and then you give misleading top of the range deluxe prices and either didn't point out or didn't bother to check whether there were cheaper options.
