Just been listening to the Welsh National Anthem on Utube. In Welsh, of course. Thinking of some of my ancestors from North Wales in the nineteenth century, what a wonderful anthem. Can’t beat the Welsh choirs.
What music makes you emotional?
Have to admit there are quite a few pieces for me.

All of me loves all of you by John Legend.

How Long Will I Love You by Ellie Goulding. Just beautiful.

Jim Croce has some wonderful songs. The one that begins...Operator, can you help me make this call? It's quite heartbreaking.

Dolly Parton I will always love you.

So much lovelier and with much more feeling than the loud, belted-out Whitney Houston version 🙂

Oh, and there was an inane pop song called "rock-a-by baby" that my girl used to sing to her boys when it came on.
They would join in and do the "Ah yeah!" and rapping bits. smile

I have a few. And I love you so by Perry Como and Forever and ever, my heart will be true. Both were sung by my dad to my mum over many years. It brings my lovely dad back to me. I'm a fan of Jim Croce too.

Chestnut

Enya is guaranteed to make you well up, and I associate these two with my parents.
I dreamt I dwelt in marble halls
A day without rain

I dreamt I dwelled in marble halls is a wonderful song though doesn't quite make me cry- there is just something about it isn't there?

Louis Armstrong's Wonderful World does it for me everytime as it was one of my dad's favourite and so always reminds me of him singing it.

Time in a Bottle - Jim Croce.

I can’t listen to The Cars, who’s going to take you home tonight, without seeing those dreadful images from Live Aid.

Jim Croce died very young in an aircraft accident and this song makes me so sad that he didn't have the time he should have enjoyed with his young family. It can bring tears to my eyes just hearing him singing it

Granmarderby10 Sun 07-Apr-24 15:54:53

Doh! Chestnut you’ve been and gone and dunnit now 🥲 reminding me of “I Dreamt I Dwelt In Marble Halls”

silverlining48 Sun 07-Apr-24 15:52:04

I was pregnant and in a queue to pay my gas bill. Suddenly When a child is born came on in the shop and I couldn’t stop crying.
If I had known how long the delivery was to be I would have cried even more. (36 hours if anyone is interested).

Songs that make you teary aren't necessarily our favourite songs - but the ones that live deep in our psyche.

My father sang Calon Lan to me as a child and Myfanwy too - and they will forever be associated with his love.

Biko - Peter Gabriel
This Woman’s Work - Kate Bush
