Not allowing my dog

The law is going to be changed so that landlords will be unable to reasonably refuse to allow tenants to have pets but unfortunately the new law isn’t in force yet and I have been unable to find out when it will be brought in. Do you have someone such as a councillor who could take up your case? I imagine it would be very detrimental to your emotional wellbeing to have to be parted from your little dog.

I think you need to tread very carefully bending the rules, as has been mentioned, you will outlive your dog and that home looks beautiful.

Get the dog a fancy hi-viz jacket and say it’s your assistance animal!

Seriously though, I think you need to take the house, as it sounds as if the dog’s living arrangements are well sorted too, especially if you are still able to see her every day.

I have asked if she can visit regularly and they had said yes so I am thinking after gauging the neighbours if I could gradually have her spend more time with me than my daughters gradually manoeuvering her weigh in but not actually living there full-time if you know what I mean

Have they met her? She sounds very inoffensive and most unlikely to damage the property. Can you describe her as being very important to your emotional wellbeing, as clearly she is?

They are aware of her being a small breed bichon non-molting doesn’t bark eight years old extremely well-behaved but they are very very strict in these properties. They are listed buildings and they will not allow pets only caged birds and fish.

Such a sad situation, have another try with the owners. Good luck.

Do the owners of the almshouse know that your dog is very small and doesn’t bark? I would try very hard to get them to accept her.

This is what I would do. I couldn't part with my sweet cat.

I am sure your daughter would look after your little furry friend for you because she has been looking after you and your pet for quite a while now.

Such a pity that landlords can’t be more flexible and understanding in this situation.😞 You obviously need the security of your own home, and the fact that your daughter lives nearby, will happily care for your dog and you’ll be able see him every day must be a comfort to you.

I would definitely go for the property.It sounds lovely and you would see your dog every day. You are very lucky.

I’m pretty sure my daughter will allow my dog to stay Especially as she is a companion to her dog.
I’m at my daughters every day so nothing will change other than the nighttime arrangements. I will discuss it with her tonight ..

Go for the House.. If your daughter has lived with the Dog for a while sure she will take it.

I honestly don't know what I'd do in your position...a home is really important on so many levels but the same could be argued for our pets.

My friend lives in a rented property run by a housing association specifically for over 55's and they do allow pets - certain restrictions / regulations apply of course.
It would be lovely if more were so enlightened!

I know I’ll never get the opportunity with social housing again if I turn this down, I will be at my daughters every day so it’s not like I’d never see her. I would just miss her sitting on my lap every night. Heartbreaking

Take the house! I know the stress my aunt went through to get a council bungalow. You can visit your dog or your daughter can bring it round for a visit. Flip side of the coin, what would happen if you turn this little house down & something happened to your little dog- no house & no dog! Will they allow cats?

I’d take the property, you’ll need a home for the rest of your life.

It will be heartbreaking for you not having your dog every night but I dare say your dog will be fine with your daughter's lap. I think this is too good an opportunity to miss given you'll see pouch everyday.

Can 't give you advice except to say to look to your heart - home versus beloved dog. For me it would be the love and companionship of my dog and my conscience would bother me if I left her behind. On the other hand, I would love to be given the option of my own home in your circumstances. Maybe as primary carer, your daughter will visit you most days (and can bring your dog)? Good luck!

Oh dear Scarlettsnan not an easy decision to make, but if this is your only option to having your own home, and your D is prepared to become your dog's primary carer and you know s/he will be well cared for and you'll see her/him on a regular basis, then maybe you should take the almshouse.

Tough one. If your DD is happy to keep the dog at her house and lives near enough, you could go and take him for a walk or just see him every day.

I wouldn't pass up the chance of your own home.
