I don’t watch EE, but I do watch and read fiction. And for someone never to be moved by some of the most powerful and emotional writing that is available throughout the hundreds of years of wonderful writing, I find incredibly difficult to believe.

There’s a difference between being moved and being in tears. Some people cry easily, others don’t.

I can often be moved to tears by fiction.
I used to watch EE but not for a long time. Perhaps it's just too real!

You're right though, the acting is often first class.

I cannot bear East Enders and haven't watched it for years. Yes, these storylines happen in real life, we can read about them everyday depending on which newspapers we choose to read. I do not want or need to be force-fed so much over-sensationalising of life every single day. My viewing choices tend to be uplifting and joyful

I didn't realise Eastenders was going to be a one hour programme. It was rubbish, Yolande's overacting was unbelievable. She could have just used a well placed knee in his groin and saved us from her wailing.

The actor had her back to the perpetrator & don’t you think that as was portrayed in the episode that the victim “ froze’ her words were she was looking down at herself . I find your opinion not very understanding of the situation that she was in .
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion & yes this was a powerful episode in my opinion & well acted

My O level teacher read from Mill on the Floss to us and cried at the drowning scene. She must have read the book so many times but it still reduced her to tears.

Superb acting, this predator has sexually assaulted/raped six women. He deliberately picked older women, because people were less likely to believe them.
Saying to kick him in the groin is total nonsence.

I taught Sunset Song many times. Every time I read the part where Chris forgave the spirit of Ewan, I choked. I found it unbearably moving. So yes, I have been moved to tears by art, whether book, tv or film.

I have not cried at TV since I used to watch Lassie as a child, but War Horse came close!!

I'm regularly in tears when I hear Eastenders is still on tv. Repeats of Batman or the 1970's comedy Butterflies would be so much more appealing. The old BBC testcard would run Eastenders close too.

It was brutal wasn’t it? And beautifully acted. I’ve watch EE since the first episode - not absolutely every one - and it is about the only thing I watch now on live TV. Id much rather have gritty realism than fluffy rubbish.

AI - the robot boy who pleaded to be made into a real boy
Lion - film set in India
…. and more recently

Some of them, yes Barbadosbelle. Not in others, for instance where someone has been bereaved. However it is a fact that I don’t cry when reading fiction or fact which reduces others to tears. That is not the same as not being moved by something. I have had enough in real life to weep about, believe me.

I had this on too….it was extremely well produced and hard to watch.

I went to a very professional but local am dram event last night with two friends. Two of us cried through the Les Miserable songs, the other was completely dry eyed.
I really hadn’t wanted to ‘show myself up’ but tears came, uninvited. They always do if it’s LM. My favourite show with fantastic songs.

As for EE I watched it for 30 or more years from the very start ( when Martin was a baby) 👶. The first episode was about a rape, hard hitting for a soap in those days.
I decided to stop about 15 years ago as I was fed up with all the anger and shouting, but think its story lines on social issues have usually been dealt with well and will have helped many people over the years.

I think that’s very harsh and unfair! GSM speaks as she finds and comes across to me as an honest decent human being! She reminds me so so much as my own late mother, who would have much admired her! Obviously GSM I don’t think you’re anywhere near old enough to be my Mum

Why does GSM always get called out for saying what she thinks, we don’t all have to be the same and I’m quite certain there is no malice intended nor antagonism. Wouldn’t it be boring here without differences of opinion.

I'm afraid I thought that Yolande's overacting was painful. She was groped. Shocking for sure but the prolonged gurning and moaning was just irritating. Interesting storyline though. The other ladies were good and acted their parts convincingly. Much better than Yolande.

Just because Germanshepherdsmum doesn't cry very often over dramas or fiction, and maybe finds those of us who do, a bit over sentimental, that doesn't mean she is uncaring or callous.

Aveline I think alot of acting these days is OTT. It kind of has to be, because otherwise it doesn't grab attention for modern audiences. My goddaughter went to drama school and is in West End productions. She is always being directed to exaggerate in order to rouse the audience's emotions.
Yet, Judi Dench doesn't need to do this!

Whatever - I am not the weepy sort. I have had enough to cry about in real life.

I’m the opposite, can cry when it’s fictional but usually in real life I toughen up and deal with it.
