When something goes wrong it's the practicalities of it all that are difficult.

It really, really does help to know that there are people who care, so thank you all, but particularly to Petra.
Her call meant a lot, as she said to phone her at any time I'd I needed to.

Miss A, what a rotten time you've had and are still having. Much as I like living alone, the thought of being so ill on my own scares me stiff and I am so sorry this has happened to you. It's good, though, to have the moral support (and advice) from so many grans on this forum and long may that continue. I hope that your GP's advice holds good and the anti-bs at last do the job. Soon, I hope, you'll be feeling even more 'glad to be alive' and able to enjoy life once again. (hugs) xxxxx

I know that feeling well 😄
I keep saying to myself (when I'm in your position), 'at least I'm not in hospital' Hate the place, hate fighting to get the right treatment.
Rather be at home and seeing to myself.
Sometimes we have to give in and let the experts help us though.

Just a thought for the future, you can buy an oxygen monitor for around £5-8 on ebay.
I found it helpful at times of distress to be able to check oxygen levels.
You might like to have on in the house?

Gp just told me it was too soon to feel any benefit from the antibiotics, and to wait longer.
I'm managing to keep them down now, but it means I've got to wean myself back onto the my usual pills again, now.

Nae bother, though.
I'm sort of glad to be alive still.

Only just saw this MissAdventure what an awful time your having.
I do hope you were eventually prescribed anti sickness tabs?
How helpful was the telephone call from gp?

I think it may be that I'm not all that well in the first place that it hit me so hard.
I hadn't realised how hard.

As someone with chronic lung disease I am offering the following advice:

Don't smoke
When taking anti-biotics always remember to take them with food, or just before. If taken on an empty stomach they will make you feel sick.
Drink plenty of clear fluids.
Rest
Be patient, some will take a few days to begin to work
When the course is finished re-charge your gut by taking pro-biotics and give yourself time to recover,
Prevent re-occurence by boosting your immune system with a good multi-vitamin especially Vit D, and a healthy diet.
Get plenty of fresh air and exercise
Sleep in a well ventilated room and open windows regularly
Keep bedding clean by washing on hot wash and hanging outdoors if possible.
I recommend bamboo pillows as I have noticed a huge difference since I bought one.

I used to have very frequent chest infections especially in the winter but haven't had one now for over two years.

I hope you are on the mend soon but go back to your GP if things don't settle.

Just noticed this thread. Sorry to hear you’re having such a miserable time MissAdventure. Maybe you should give serious consideration to phoning 111 for advice as you’re still experiencing breathing difficulties.

You may need a chest xray and have your oxygen levels checked. I know you have mobility issues but if necessary they can send a mobile paramedic to your house to examine you and take it from there.

I hope you’ll consider this option. They’ll be much more understanding than your lack lustre GP service.

Last year I saw the practice nurse who assured me it was just a chest infection, ‘go home and take it easy’ - a week later it had become severe pneumonia, in fact I was whisked into hospital and given x ray and CT scans because they suspected lung cancer. Luckily it wasn’t but it took months to recover, please seek help if you feel poorly with a chest infection.

Sorry, I really didn't mean to worry anyone.

I still have about 4 days left of the antibiotics, so am hoping to knock this blooming whatever it is, down and out, once and for all.

I've MADE myself not be sick with each one - counting, singing, guzzling pints of water, rocking to and fro.

I still feel like death warmed up, still sound as if I've taken up the bagpipes, but I'm better than I was.
