Lunch stop offs near Swindon M4

We are breaking a long drive east to west to stay overnight in Swindon close to the M4 (premier inn) and would like to stop for lunch before we get to junction 16.
Can anyone recommend a nice town or village not too far off the beaten track where we can have a wander afterwards until our room is available late pm.

From 16 you can drive down to Avebury, or Wootton Bassett is quite near.
We did that run often but came off at 14 and along the A4. Lovely road.

Thanks Jamesand Jon that looks pr omising. We went to Avebury years ago when we were NT members, can you park if you aren’t members now? Otherwise Marlborough sounds nice. 😊
