I stopped using Royal Mail for parcels several years ago and now use Evri (formerly Hermes) for everything.
Their service includes the republic of Ireland and you can fill in the customs declaration online, drop off parcels at a Parcelshop or arrange collection from home and the price is very competitive, sometimes cheaper than via Royal Mail for an (in my experience) altogether more reliable service.

I prefer Evri too. Royal Mail isn't up to scratch.

It may be an issue at your local sorting office, or another one enroute which isn't functioning properly. It seems very strange, and you should get compensation or a refund if you can prove the item never arrived.

Thanks Petra in a strange way it does help to share a problem and know it’s not just you the finger is pointing at Doesn’t make it any better but I suppose it that old saying a problem shared is a problem halved
I just hope I either get it back again ifit eventually flies
I won’t send any more presents …… it’s spoilt my fun

I know it’s no consolation but you’re not alone.
There was a piece on Radio 4 some time ago on this very issue.
The program put a tracker on their parcel to check out what was going on.
Their parcel took 3 weeks and that was being sent to an address in the uk.

But my package to my Grandaughter is still sitting in the city sorting office somewhere and I can t get past a robot to talk to anyone and when I did get someone they knew nothing about the sorting office I could have walked it to Ireland in this amount of time. 2 blooming months £60 poorer ( 1 present 2 cards and 2 lots of postage ) and it’s still not left the effing country

I was amazed at the postal system last week. Posted a small item to USA on Friday and it was delivered Tuesday AM. Can do it properly sometimes.

I agree with BeverleyJB that the collection service is great. I've never had a problem. maybe try that, it will save you going to the Post Office. Don't forget that they bring the label. What could possibly go wrong? 😂

The post office is the only company I have had problems with, most of the others have free tracking and delivery much quicker. I particularly like In post locker and DPD.

In case this is useful, for your EBay things possibly, my DH arranges collection by the Post Office. It doesn’t cost anymore (at the moment anyway) and our postie comes to the house with a preprinted label to collect the parcel. All arranged online and with a timed window for collection.

I bought something from an eBay seller and she sent it tracked. She didn’t give me the tracking number so when it didn’t come in the time I had expected I messaged her and she sent a picture of her receipt with the number. When I entered it the message said that more information would be available when they were ready to deliver, which is something I have never seen before. The next day I got a card through the door saying that I had to pay £7 to get it delivered because the sender had paid insufficient postage. I paid online and got the package delivered 2 days later. There was no stamp or anything on it. I sent a picture to the seller and we came to the conclusion that either the post office never put a stamp on or didn’t make sure it was stuck and it came off. She is going to see if she can get a refund and is going to refund me the postage.

That is very frustrating, but to be honest, we we get very poor service just about everywhere! However, to pay for a postal service and it doesn’t even leave the country is actually taking the p…. I worked on the PO counter for many years, every complaint was taken very seriously, items would be hunted down, apologies made, and possibly a book of stamps compensation, then the PO was a reputable business you could rely on!

Long story I ll try and cut it as short as poss
Beginning of March I posted a 21st small present to my Grandaughter in Ireland for her birthday end of March it ususally takes 8 ish days so was well ahead of myself I also put money in her account but wanted a little present as it was a special birthday cost about £8.50 to send ….It never arrived!! 5 weeks later it arrived back at my house never having left the
country !!! I repack it added my youngests 18 th birthday card and took it to the PO asked advice as to why it never went they scratched their heads, everything had been correct no reason This time I paid £12.95 and sent it tracked We are now three weeks on and I have tracked it and it’s still in my local sorting office I ve rung but no one knows where !!!

Today I took a small eBay package to post now EBay advertise second class tracked at 3.39 s I chose that, the person paid I went to the machine to save time, it came up as cheapest 3.69 so I went to the counter, he weighted it and said £3.89 I told him the machine s just told me £3.69 he said I ll come and help you must have done something wrong Needless to say when he did it it read £3.69 so now he’s scratching his head and I ve lost 30p on my selling
To top it all I now have to catch a bus to town as all the counter PO s near me have closed down
Hope you ll accept my moan
Phew
