Meant to say my mother and fatherinlaw.

My husband was adopted at just a few days old. My mother and father know where great parents. My husband and I adopted a daughter after 10 years of marriage, and many fertility investigations. 2 years later we adopted our son. We regarded our selves as so lucky......and still do. Sadly we have no grandchildren but we were so blessed to have a son and daughter!

We have friends who adopted a child. They were not told the full extent of the child mental health issues.

The situation has taken over their lives not in a positive way.

They are now in their 70s, having to deal with terrible problems every day.

They are such a lovely couple it breaks our hearts to see what they have to go through.

Not actually legally adopted. However, our youngest son arrived (best Xmas pressie ever), on 24th December aged eleven and half months. We were foster parents, mainly for babies and small toddlers. This baby had been in children's home from birth as young social worker had hoped to get him back with his parents. This was not possible so he came to us for 'intermediate' fostering. Intermediate meant around a year.

He stayed, became the youngest member of our family, even using family name as he grew older and insisted on it. Adoption would have been very difficult for his biological Mum who did visit him (supervised visits only), also financially made little sense for us.

So he happily grew up in our boisterous, large family, we did occasionally have younger fosterings joining us. It was not until he graduated from Uni that he came entirely out of the local authority care system. As most of his life he had used our family name for his surname, there seemed little point in him deed polling a change of name then, All his certificates, bank accounts etc were in family name.
So, similar to an adoptive child, although not one. Yes, he always knew of his original mother, I insisted on that, the last time he saw her was just before he went to Uni, would only visit her provided I promised to stay with him.

To all intents and purposes, and emotionally he will always be my youngest!!!!

No apology necessary. Clearly you are feeling very anxious just now. I hope you are able to access some support. Perhaps PM people on here who have experience of adoption. My only connection is we have a few friends who adopted their children.

I'm sorry but I can't talk about this now. I thought yesterday when I was feeling down I could but I'm finding extremely hard now. Please accept my apologies.

We used to foster babies back in the day.

Both fostered and adopted children in our family - plus adoption was one of my specialities as a social worker.

Where is this thread going?
Are you or your ACs planning to adopt?

Allsorts Sun 05-May-24 19:56:53

I know a couple of people who have adopted, I think how much they must have wanted a child.

Fidelity2 Sun 05-May-24 19:45:30

Sorry,...were, not where.

Fidelity2 Sun 05-May-24 19:42:59

What is your interest ? Where you adopted, or are you thinking of adopting a child ?

Icandoit Sun 05-May-24 10:53:49

Parents who have adopted - sorry!.

Elegran Sun 05-May-24 10:43:04

Do you mean parents who have adopted or are you seeking someone to adopt a child? There is a vast difference, and a different kind of poster would answer each question.

Icandoit Sun 05-May-24 10:04:36

Just wondering.
