Any used Bar Keepers Friend cleaning cream? Is it worth getting, or is it Cif under another name?

Curlywhirly Fri 10-May-24 14:23:25

Well I've used the Bar Keepers Friend powder and it's just like Vim (do you remember it?!).

I do remember Vim!

DD and SIL have bought a very run down house and will eventually do it up. But while they wait for planning, they are cleaning everything in sight, and someone said Barkeepers Friend was very good.

Not keen on the cream but the Bar Keepers Friend powder is excellent, especially on stainless steel.

I wouldn't be without BKF. It is indeed like Vim (or Ajax) but less coarse, so it doesn't scratch. I'd like magic dust.

Love it. I use it for cleaning and polishing my vintage (charity shop) copper finds! There's nothing half so satisfying as seeing a sparkly treasure emerge from a dull old bit of tatgrin

Ah, it doesn’t scratch, that’s good. Thanks

I always keep some. I found the cream goes solid after a while.
Good stuff

I have the cream and think it's very good but am tempted by the powder now.

BKF powder is an excellent product - but it MUST be used wet, otherwise it will scratch shiny surfaces.

So, do folks think it’s better than Cif?

Reading your post reminded me I recently bought some BKF powder meaning to try it on my glass oven door. It hadn’t been cleaned since I got it 8 years ago and you couldn’t see through the brown grime to see your cooking. So I’ve just done it. I sprinkled a bit on the door and scrubbed it with the scrubbing side of my washing up sponge and the grime just came off. The whole job took 5 minutes. Amazing. Sparkling clean glass!

I haven't used the cream, but the powder is better than Cif, IMO, particularly when used with a Scrub Daddy.

Get me, giving advice on cleaning products grin

I use the BKF cream, prefer it to the powder. Use it on my stainless steel sinks and hob. I noticed the price varies quite a bit depending on where you buy it, last time I bought it it was cheapest at The Range, but that was a while ago.

BKF toilet cleaner is astonishing!

I use the cream and like it.

I've never heard of it. I remember Vim though.
