Were you just looking with the naked eye *Oldnproud? We just had a faint red haze across the sky, but when my son got his phone out it showed all the incredible colours. Such a thrill, I've waited 78 years to see it.

Yes, just with the naked eye. If i ever get the opportunity again, i will certainly use my phone. That said, I never saw any colour at all - not the slightest hint of red or green - so I don't think it would have made any difference.
Fingers crossed I get another opportunity in my lifetime.

I'm feeling even more disappointed now. My dil has just posted some great pics of the aurora taken from their upstairs window last night, and they only live three miles away! That is exactly the direction I spent the night looking in, so I don't know how I missed it 😔

Didn’t see much from the naked eye but using my phone got some lovely photos, here in East Anglia. Didnt need any filters or enhancing at all. Here’s one…

I am so envious!

Despite staying up until it was coming light (which surprised me to find happening by 3.30am!), I saw nothing more than a few, barely noticeable, pale grey 'rays', for about 15 mins. If I hadn't been staring at the sky literally non-stop looking for something, there is no way I would have even spotted them.
That was in West Northamptonshire.

Maybe I will try again tonight if the skies are still clear, as it is my dream to see a decent display of the Northern Lights even if it does mean creeping out of the house in the dead of night, walking down the unlit country lane then standing alone in a north-facing field staring at the sky for several hours. Not to mention hoping that I can leave/return to the house without any of the neighbours spotting me! But I'm not going to tell anyone that because they will think that I am totally crazy 🤪

It was visible where I live, Stockport, seen on local Facebook.
Again it was apparently better through the camera lens than by the naked eye.
Sadly I was asleep by 10pm.

My GS took these near Hemel Hempstead I knew about it but thought we’ll never see it in London but it probably was. I’ll try again tonight if I can stay awake till after midnight.

We could see it as far south as Reading but agreed it was much brighter through the camera lens.

Going by the photographs it was very good over the East Midlands but they say you need to view through a camera.

You lucky,lucky lot. I’ve never seen it but when we lived in Tasmania I did see the Southern lights. Spectacular!
