My 4mo grandson cries relentlessly

One of my sons had trapped wind and cried the whole night. I had the same with my granddaughter. I can’t remember what the solution was. I think we were advised just to ride it out. Colic is awful and you wish you could take the pain away. Poor little mites.

You have my sympathy, Jewelrnca. Following on from perfect baby DD1, so easy to care for that I thought I was the perfect mother grin, DD2 was a shock. Even in the post-natal ward she’d be wheeled out of the night nursery because she was waking the other babies. Just as you describe above, unless I had her strapped to me (and even sometimes when I did) she cried constantly and rarely slept. No obvious medical problems. My district nurse asked me to keep a diary of her days and then told me a baby couldn’t possibly sleep so little and cry so much (helpful!). We never did get to the bottom of it, but at 6 months we suddenly turned a corner and from then on she was the most laidback, contented child anyone could wish for. Fingers crossed for you!

Oh heck that sounds tough! Could it be trapped wind? Only other suggestion I can make, can you put him in his buggy and walk. Or, put him in his car seat and drive, both options worked for us many moons ago. That sounds like a pretty nerve wracking day atm. I hope things improve.

All I can say is that he will grow out of it. Our eldest was like that and it was very, very hard. I think maybe he needs a health check because he might be allergic to something in the milk and it is giving him stomach ache. My great grandson is lactose intolerant and he was a cryer until they worked this out. He is still breast fed but his mum doesn’t eat or drink anything containing lactose.

Crying grandson

I watch my 4 month old grandson once/week from 8a-6p. Since he was born he has been colicky and only “catnaps “ for about 20 min 3X/day. Otherwise he’s crying or feeding. He takes the bottle fine even though he’s breastfed. I’m at my wit’s end even though I raised 3 kids w/o any problems. Today he cried for 4 hrs straights except for the 20 minutes while taking a bottle. I walk holding him, I rock him. I pat him. I do everything I can think of yet he howls. He doesn’t cry with my husband and when my husband came home from work today, I started crying saying that my 64yo nerves can’t handle this. I’m a trauma RN so I’m used to chaos and stress but this is doing me in. I don’t tell my daughter or son-in-law for fear of upsetting them but I’m seriously considering stopping. They don’t let him cry which means they keep him in a swaddle to their chest, bounce on exercise balls, continuously interact and entertain him. HELP!
