Life after death / Reincarnation

This thread is connected to the 'How do you know you are dead dead' thread.

There were a few posts on it about life after death so I thought it would be a good topic for a new thread.

I don't have anything to contribute but I find the whole area of Life after Death/Reincarnation very interesting.

There have been many reports of children talking about a past life. They seem to 'forget' by the time they reach 5 or 6.

I find it all fascinating.

Interesting subject PinkCosmos. I believe I have inherited some memories that are not my own. They are memories that belonged to my grandmother who I never had the chance to meet. Things she saw with her eyes in the 1930s. I tried to find a theory on this but could not find anything so I just made up my own theory that memories must be in organs, not just brains and just as skin color or health issues are passed down, so, too are memories. That's the only way I could make sense of it.

I have a very strong memory going back to being a new baby in my cot. I have a brother who is four years older than me and he must have come into the room I was in because I heard my Mum say 'come out of there, you'll wake the baby'. How could I have understood that as a new born. The memory is very vivid even now after all these years.

I think often our vivid memories are what we ve heard without realising it
I have a memory of a man ( think my Dad ) running down the back alley with me in his arms I m crying but I honestly don’t think it’s a memory I think I ve heard them talk about it over the years, apparently I was learning to walk found the stairs and fell up them (I always was different) cutting my chin badly we had no car and the nearest hospital then was about two miles away so I can imagine Dad running with me there
But I think I ve heard them talk about it when I was a child and retained that
(I still have a tiny scar just under my chin if anyone’s interested 🤣🤣🤣)

I'm not sure mine is hearing anyone talk about it, I can see the light from the landing as the bedroom door was opened and my Mum's voice so clearly. Then the door was closed again.

I have this thought that we come back time and again through the same family line, for instance my great great great grandmother could come back as a newborn baby in my family 🤷‍♀️

I think it was Joan Collins who said in an article I read that she’d once met a man who she knew instantly that she’d known intimately in a previous life.
But the sensation was exceedingly chilling, because there was an aura of evil, and she knew that they had done, or been involved in, something very wicked.

A lot of reincarnation beliefs are based around that.

So, when you meet someone and feel an instant connection with them, it could be that your past lives have always entwined with theirs, in some way.

I have a memory, which I always thought was a dream but I don't think I would remember a dream so clearly after all these years,,,I was walking with my mother and my sister, who was 8 years older than me but in this memory she was only about 4 years older. I was walking a bit behind them, they crossed the road where we lived, next thing I remember is an avalanche of snow coming down a hill and I was covered in snow, I still remember this very clearly.

In the past, many times but not so much now, I've had the same 'dream' of walking down a wide lane with no pavements and walking past an old stone wall about 3feet high. In the middle of the wall is an opening and steps up to a path through a garden which leads to a cottage's front door.

I can see it now just thinking about it. It feels part of my past, whether in this life when very young or in another life. I always feel quite agitated when I dream or think about the place and want passionately to go there as it means something significant to me. I have a deep feeling of happiness when I 'see' it. I have no idea where it is.

I asked my grandmother once if it sounded like the place of a friend of hers that I can remember visiting when very small. I remember a long journey there [about 120miles from where we lived]. She said his house wasn't like that at all. I'm still puzzled and I still long to see it.

I've always believed in it and always will.

There's no point in being born, living then dead with nothing after!

My 62 year old husband is ex-army bomb disposal and he KNOWS he was army in a previous life, he has memories of it.

He spoke to a woman at a church that practices spiritual stuff and believes in reincarnation, he didn't know her/she didn't know him and it was his 1st visit. The second she saw him she pinged onto him and started mentioning things from a past life they shared. Apparently they were somehow connected. He recognized her immediately but they didn't know each others ID's in this actual life!

He used to drive up to remote places and sleep in the car over night or in a tent in Lancashire and he's had memories of things up there from past lives.

I'm 59 but when I was 18 I was on a coach to Blackpool and on the way we passed these HUGE industrial chimneys and for a few seconds I absolutely froze solid, I just KNEW I'd been there on the chimney site before but not in this life. Strange feeling.

In my 20s there was a news story on TV, something to do with the motorway I was on on the coach and I eyeballed those chimneys again and again got a very strange feeling of being there beforehand.

A neighbour in his 60s, ex-army has had reincarnation experiences and has been to genuine psychics, who confirmed what he was saying about who he was in a previous life.

Spuddy, I well remember a film about General Patton. He was involved in WW2 in N Africa, and while looking at the Roman ruins of Carthage (just outside Tunis IIRC) he apparently knew he’d been there before, as a soldier.

my adult dd who has a learning disability told me her Grandmother had visited her (she had died a few days previously) she talked about it in great detail - she didn't know her Grandmother had died

I think something other worldly happens when people pass over. It is a very strange feeling that is hard to explain. Sorry I know this is a bit off topic

JaneJudge Sat 20-Jul-24 14:45:15

I must add I am not religious

JaneJudge Sat 20-Jul-24 14:49:40

This is also not strictly about reincarnation but an interesting study

I think I drowned in a previous life I have always freaked when my brother, then my children and grandchildren are near water. I have constant recurring dreams of someone drowning and trying to save them. I cannot bring myself have a cruise holiday and dislike swimming and a poor swimmer. I am terrified to go under the water. I firmly believe something happened in another life!

JaneJudge Sat 20-Jul-24 15:02:01

GrannyIvy, I am the same with water. I have the rising water dreams too where I get trapped in a town or on the beach and the water is coming in quickly and rising
