Boastful Gran

I think people like that are insecure. They are to be pitied. My friend is always boasting about her family's achievements. However, she forgets that I have known them since they were tiny.

Of course I would never boast about my DGDs, there is no need, everyone knows they intelligent, beautiful and so well behaved.

Exactly Marydoll . Remember the Christmas Round Robins letters ? With someone you knew years ago and they still send you wild exploits of the off shoots of family members you never met? We were always going to reply with exciting made up tales of our life but never were mean enough

I can say the same about my grandchildren Marydoll but, as they get all their talents from my side of the family, I am much too modest to boast.
lily64 I have friends who are quick to whip out their phone to show me photos and Mrs Brown's "that's nice" is a handy response. I was a bit miffed though once when I was telling a friend that my granddaughter had been accepted for a place in a rather prestigious dance school and she dismissed it by telling me that she had dance lessons as a child. She is generally prone to one-upmanship though so I now tell her nothing.

I’m not a gran yet 🤞, but yes it gets tiring when other grans bang on about their GC. It’s like they have nothing else in their lives.
I have several friends who give the impression that their AC and S/D in-laws can’t cope with kids and life and they have to rush to the rescue and help them . They seem to have this need to be needed .
And those who recite a long list of good deeds , I just make the appropriate noises and change the subject.

Yes I have several of those friends,who not only regale me chapter and verse,but send the pictures to me as well😴

I am genuinely interested in most friends' families and I like to think that they are also quite interested in mine.

However I have seen that distracted look, usually while they wait patiently for me to find the b*****d pictures on my phone!!

I dislike the Round Robin but I suppose it's a quick way of keeping updated. There are seldom any bad results or failures mentioned and nobody asks after you.

My cousin writes her Christmas letter as though it's from her cat! It's daft but funny.

Yes I have some I expect it from some but I just smile and say ‘ lovely’

I hate round robin letters ! So impersonal.

I find I am usually a listener in conversations as the talk is only about themselves. If I occasionally mention about where I was or what I did, I find the conversation always goes back to what they have been doing. It doesn't really bother me as I like to hear what other people have been doing and I like to see photos

My DGS has just been made a prefect! He is the first on either side of this family to be one. DH would have been pleased amazed. Our DP would have been impressed but they're not around to tell so I'm telling you!

Biggest switch off has always been folk boasting about their DC and DGC. Even worse are their photos!!

I know I can go on about my grandchildren and happy to share the ups and downs and I also like hearing about my friends grandchildren and pictures. I hope I don’t go over the top tho and none of friends too I like to think we are sharing info😂😊

Does not bother me at all, it is just chit chat, they are proud of their Grandchildren. I don't think it is a case as said upthread they should be pitied, I find that sentiment horrible.
I would agree that if people do not listen to you in return, that is rude and self centred.

Brilliant, I asked my friend if she thought the odds of our two being head boy and girl at at School of a million to one was about right. She told me I was being far too generous.

Have to say it’s interesting that those who love to give the lead to those that continue to talk about themselves . Very generous. But in my experience they are just egotists and should share the conversation
