Having a lazy day

(27 Posts)

Awake very early this morning and by 9.30am thought about going back to bed as feeling so drained. Sat on sofa with a coffee and must have drifted off, now feeling guilty that nothing done, can't be bothered to go for a walk although I know that would blow away the cobwebs. Should I force myself to get active or just succumb to a lazy day.....what would you do???

If you haven't had a lazy day yesterday or in the past few days, go for it! I enjoy a lazy day after I look after my two grandsons for two days. I luxuriate in being lazy, read, watch tv, listen to the radio and potter about.
However if it has become a habit then I make myself go out or do something in order to recover my motivation.
So either way is ok by me!

The day is yet young! Plenty of time to relax and be active! I am lying in a bubble bath reading Gransnet! I have had a 3 mile walk first thing but otherwise have done very little. Go with the flow travelsafar! And enjoy your day and banish those feelings of guilt!

You should have whatever suits you travelsafar without feeling guilty. I decided recently l am going to do exactly what l want when l want to as there us only myself and the dog to please most of the time.
You deserve to be lazy whenever you feel like it.

Well, it's going to rain here with a good chance of more thunderstorms and I'm off to a fair so I will probably be soggy, grumpy and envying you travelafar. Seriously though a lazy day occasionally is a great way to 'reset' , enjoy & make the most of it!

Perhaps by now you have thought of something you might enjoy doing, if not dont feel guilty about the lazy day. I think if you really push yourself it often doesnt work out very well, as my day yesterday proved. Back bad, tried to make an effort. Made up some mince which is usually very good, and was rather mediocre, did some extra potatoes to use some for later and managed to burn them, and later went to fry an egg for once and the egg turned out to be bad!! I do think that when you are in the mood to do something, whether it is baking or writing to people, you make a better job of it. Obviously yesterday wasnt my day!! So if something comes to mind that you would enjoy, go for it, but if not have that lazy day and enjoy it

What's a lazy day? I don't have them!

pascal30 Mon 27-May-24 14:42:17

Rest days are really important and necessary I find..

Urmstongran Mon 27-May-24 14:47:54

I’d succumb …. 😁

I never regret choosing the easy option.

A friend rang to say she was hoping round which spurred me on to clean the bathroom and put the hoover over the carpets. We had poached egg on toast for lunch and spent few hours catching up and putting the world to rights.😊

Travelsafar, That's the best lazy day I've ever heard of! I think I'll have one...

Is there any good reason why you should not treat yourself to a lazy day?

At our age we all need one now and again, so if there isn't anything you MUST do or anyone making demands on your time, take the whole day off and enjoy it.

We all deserve a “lazy day” ot two please don’t feel guilty

I give in to lazy days too often, but with me it is usually a sign that I am in low spirits, which term I prefer to depression. It can stretch to a couple of days, then I pull myself out of it, or am pulled out of it by appointments etc.

I have no guilt about a lazy day after a long, active and tiring day the day before.

It really should depend on how active the previous few days have been..........if they were particularly slow then maybe a gentle walk today would be uplifting - it doesn't have to be far or even strenuous. However, if the previous days have been rather full on then just relax and do nothing.

It's really a sort of pacing yourself which we should all learn to do from 70s onwards.

Spencer2009 Thu 30-May-24 14:03:04

It’s good to have the odd lazy day, but I do like to walk out daily for a coffee in town - just to sit and watch the world go by.

If your brain and body is telling you to have a lazy day then do it! I've tried forcing myself to do things and it can make me worse so put your tootsies up, snuggle in with a fleece or whatever, cuppa and bickies and POOF!

Esmay Fri 31-May-24 18:59:47

Never ignore your body longing for a lazy day .
Last time , I ignored needing to rest I went down with a full blown chest infection , which lasted for weeks , ruined my Christmas and is still causing health problems .
Sometimes , we need to recharge our batteries .
So enjoy and indulge yourself and don't feel even remotely guilty!

Come on! Most of us have spent years working hard for our families or own future security, have had or still have family commitments with the younger generations and/or keeping an eye on the older generation. I don't feel at all guilty at having a lazy day, or two or three. Who is judging me, and do I really care what they think anyway?!

fancythat Fri 31-May-24 19:52:36

I think resting is very under rated.
I think resting is very good for all aspects of our health. Unless we know we really do need to do more.

Kim19 Fri 31-May-24 20:33:39

I think most days are lazy days for me I do what I want, how and when I want. Lovely. Even a walk or gardening is never overly exertive. I just pace myself and enjoy. Took a bit of learning when I first retired but now I think I've mastered the art. Oh yessss......

Take it easy, I've just had four grandchildren for the week, two of them staying overnight, and am really relishing the peace.

Winnipeg3100 Sat 01-Jun-24 11:52:13

Why is having a quiet day a bad thing? Calling it lazy makes it sound like a negative thing. There's not enough quiet peoples day to day lives. Why do we have to justify being quiet, smelling the roses, reading, thinking.... having a nice coffee. As long as key tasks are taken care of, there's absolutely nothing to justify.

'What is this life if full of care we have no time to stand and stare' - or whatever the correct quotation is.
Enjoy your relaxing day without guilt, you deserve the rest as do we all at times.
