Do you dislike wearing makeup as I do?

I don't wear makeup these days, I dislike the feeling of it on my face. I did allow makeup to be applied in the past when I appeared on TV programmes and films, however when I did some filming more recently I refuse to have it applied.

Some women put so much of it on it certainly doesn't improve their looks, and could damage their skin.

I'm not one for makeup, the last time I wore some was when my son got married over 10 years ago. I'm not after attracting a member of the opposite sex so folk have to put up with me the way I am.

I used to wear makeup when I was younger. Nowadays it’s just a bit of tinted moisturiser, concealer, blusher and a subtle lipstick. And always something for my eyebrows as I ruined them in the 1970’s and they grew back very thin and patchy. I only wear eye makeup for a special occasion. I’ve found my eyes are very sensitive to eye makeup now and even the brands for sensitive eyes can make them itch.

Look Fabulous Forever have lots of videos on utube showing you what to use and how to apply it. I find their ‘looks’ too overdone for my taste but the important thing is to find out what to use and how to apply it, then you can decide what suits you.

I don't know how to use make-up. I've tried all sorts over the years but can honestly say I find it a faff, don't like the feel of it, and nowadays hands are too unstead to apply mascara. Never managed eyeliner in my life. My mother was the same, so no help there.

Nowadays there are so many products that do different things and I have not a clue what they are for.

I'm also pretty lazy when it comes to removing make-up, and my night-time routine is "undress, brush teeth, collapse into bed". Not ideal, I am sure.

But then, apart from in my teens, I've never been a beauty visually and even my dress sense is poor, so I've just got used to looking less than my best. I'd love someone to spend some time teaching me these things. My daughters are similar to me so no help really.

I love make up,wouldn’t dream of going out without it! Foundation, concealer, blusher, highlighter, eyebrows then eyes and lips.
Watch YouTube videos on how to apply

I like to wear makeup every time I’m going out, just a little face cream, mascara and my favourite chanel lipstick

Hello, just joined!
I have hardly ever worn make-up. I did dabble a bit in my teens and tolerated a bit on my wedding day to please my mum, but hardly ever since. I don't like gunk on my face and frankly, couldn't be bothered with it.

I wear full make up every day and always have done. Definitely look far better with it on than off! I think being sutle and changing shades as you get older. No bright red lipstick, black mascara, black eye liner, heavy foundation and bright blusher.
Think older skin looks coarse and uneven without foundation, you no longer have that dewy and even look of your youth but you need to be light with application and choose your colour carefully. My skin has a much better tone and over all look with foundation and covers blemishes. I go for a grey/brown eye pencil, taupe eyeshadow, brown/navy mascara, nice foundation and hint of blusher and always pink lipstick. I am not 25 anymore (oh what a shame) Look so much better with it on and feel good about myself then.

I wear make-up everyday since the age of 16. I also cleanse it off everyday. I’m often complemented on how nice my skin is. I’m sure it’s protected me from sun damage over the years, so will continue to use.

All I use is primer -it smooths out the unevenness. I don’t use any thing else on my skin.

I have always loved make up and wear it most days. It boosts my confidence and makes me feel more feminine. Not too much, just enough to boost morale.

I remember reading an article many years ago that said foundation protected the skin - not any damage. despite reading that I still don't wear any . I've bought an eyebrow pencil which I try to remember to use as my eyebrows have virtually disappeared. Apart from that I don't use anything - not because I don't like it but because I'm too lazy.
I just wish that many ladies understood the phrase LESS IS MORE when it comes to applying makeup and more importantly perfume. The way to wear perfume is to spray it and walk through it - not bath in it! A hint of a nice smell is far better than an overwhelming pong.

I only wear makeup if I’m going out.
I don’t see the point of it if I’m staying in.

I certainly look a lot better with makeup than without it.

I hardly ever wear any makeup nowadays..I try to accept myself as I am. Ageing is a challenge and an ongoing one. But it is also freeing.

I have worn moisturizer, foundation, eye brow pencil and blusher all my adult life. I can't wear eyeliner or mascara because I wear very strong contact lenses and need to keep them completely clean. Make up has changed a lot over the years and it's not difficult to find products that are light on the skin, but cover unevenness. If I am staying at home all day, then I don't wear makeup and do wear my thick glasses to rest my eyes. It's not a good look!

I have always liked wearing a discreet amount of makeup, and have always been exceeding careful to buy one of two brands that I know does me and my skin no harm.

Now, living in a small country town, and being over 70, I no longer bother with make up, except for very special occasions, which are few and far between these days.

Yes the older we get the more we get the trowel out grin🤣

petra Sun 02-Jun-24 14:53:31

MissAdventure

I like to cake it on with a trowel, as a rule.
A nice, garish blue eyeshadow, red lippy, and lots and lots of jet black eyeliner and eyebrows.

And very nice it looks 😂

Nannashirlz Sun 02-Jun-24 14:48:31

Not wearing makeup would like me walking around nude lol it ain’t going to happen. Unless it’s Sunday then I give my brushes a rest unless I’m going somewhere then I will wear it. I wear a lot of qvc makeup. It’s come along way from the cake on effect.

I don't wear make up either - only exception a light touch up on my eyebrows which are affected by thyroid issues.

Chaze58 Sun 02-Jun-24 13:33:35

When I was young (a long time ago) we never wore suncrea. Only people who were well off who went on holiday abroad did. As children we played out all day in the sun and if we got sunburnt Mum slapped on the calamine lotion!! Any damage had already happened. I do wear some light make up, always nail varnish and earrings. Not ready to go au natural yet.

Totally agree, Germanshepherdsmum, I used to wear makeup when I was younger but now at 79, I have noticed that if I look sideways at my face after I have applied BB cream, there are a load of lines that I had never seen before! If I'm going somewhere special (fat chance these days) I might put on some primer, but really, I like my face when I am well-rested and have moisturised well. All it needs is some colour if I'm going out.

I'm just trying out a light BB cream and also a moisturiser with factor 30. Factor 50 is what I've been advised to use, but as I don't go out much, I haven't been bothering, so Factor 30 - in nice moisturiser - is better than nothing. Whatever - less is more.

I'm planning to get something done to my brows soon as they are sparse in some areas and straggly in others; I do fill them in sometimes but it's annoying to have to do that.

cc Sun 02-Jun-24 12:58:20

I've never worn much foundation, just a touch here and there when I was working. I find that concealer is my best friend as I get older, but most of the time I simply don't bother. I can't bear the mask-like look that some spend ages achieving in front of the mirror.
If I'm going somewhere special and making a bit more of an effort I'll wear mascara (but not the lengthening kind) and maybe a tiny bit of natural looking eyeshadow and lipstick.
At 72 I doubt that anybody would actually notice that I bothered!
