Research into so called Blue Zones indicates that connection is important.

Today, I spoke to a neighbour who was washing his car, an acquaintance in a charity shop, another neighbour who was closing her gate, somebody I haven't seen for years and my hairdresser.

Not bragging, there are days when its down to zero.

No-one apart from the cashier at Sainsbury s fuel station. I expect DD will ring later.
There are quite a few days like this, specially at weekends. But yesterday I met halfway with DS and (fairly) DiL and tomorrow I shall be with my befriended child in the afternoon, then in the evening it's our very informal book group.

During the morning, my blackbird, as he made his many visits to my garden. He perches where he can see me, whistles if I don't notice him. Then out I go with his personal supply of meal worms.
WhatsApp communications with two friends and my daughter, including a photo.
Later, after a sandwich lunch, I chatted with my next door neighbour, who commented on how cool I looked in my sun hat.
At our local garden centre I spoke with the assistant who served me when I paid for my Impatiens. They will make a wonderful display all summer long, in an oblong container.
On my return from the garden centre, close to home I chatted with a lady I don't know, I assume she lives not far from me. Anyway, a lovely lady and a pleasant chat.
As I was typing a friend rang to suggest we go to a nearby village to their Open Gardens. So I'm off there in 15 minutes. Lucky me. smile flowers

I'm quite introverted but really get a lift from meeting friends or having a spontaneous chat with someone outside of home.
After a busy few days I can feel exhausted and definitely need some space but overall I can feel the benefits of socialising especially if it includes a few good laughs

I always speak to people when I'm out and about, particularly on the bus. I find that looking friendly often encourages people to speak to you and wonder if I am sometimes the only person that they will speak to that day?
I live with my husband and two of my children and grandchildren live close by so I speak to them daily,

Apart from email and WhatsApp?
Today, no-one yet, as had totally sleepless night on Friday/Saturday yet still had to get up at 8am and get ready for 10 am appointment (20 minute walk through City both ways) and including manual (!) food shop etc. where always chat to other shoppers .Then sister phoned for natter. So tired all day, got to bed early, mucked about on phone, finally crashed at 11pm - slept like a drain, and still in bed typing this just now 😁
I'm off topic aren't I? But I did start out well! 😂 Will get up shortly, and go out and smile at people and probably chat to someone cos I usually do... That said, I may not try too hard as feel I owe it to myself to be happily quiet today.
The week will bring enough direct noise from daughter, granddaughter - and all the online stuff I'm involved in.
Yes, I believe personal contact is important, but virtual can work very well too. X
