Who have you spoken to today?

Research into so called Blue Zones indicates that connection is important.

Today, I spoke to a neighbour who was washing his car, an acquaintance in a charity shop, another neighbour who was closing her gate, somebody I haven't seen for years and my hairdresser.

Not bragging, there are days when its down to zero.

Most days it would be zero, but I've practically got a record today!

1. spoke to a Supermarket staff assistant who was near the shelves where the bread should be and asked if they had any wholemeal seeded; she went to the store room and found some.

2. Having gone home, I then returned to the Supermarket to ask if they had found the sausage rolls that I had left ( paid for) on the self service till ! Fortunately 'yes' was the answer. I've never done that before.

3. 3. At home once more I decided to check my tyre pressures, but it was so long since I'd done them that I couldn't remember where I had to plug in the machine. Luckily there was a man mending his garage roof across the road who happened to climb down, so I plucked up courage and yelled 'Help. I've lost the plot' and he soon found the place!

4. Next door neighbor came out to his car whilst I was checking the tyres and asked if I was OK. ( He and family are friendly but don't see much of them as they're busy and about four generations younger than me. I mentioned that I'd bought a new lawn mower and was hoping that my daughter would be able to put it together when she paid a flying visit on her way back to Cheshire after being in London on Friday for meetings. He took it away and said that he would enjoy doing it as it was almost as much fun as Lego!!

Now I sound really needy - which is probably true. Living on one's own gets harder as one gets older!!

OK; OK; so I'm a sad pedant/git (who has not read through all of this thread), but every time I see it listed as trending, I think: shouldn't that read "To whom have you spoken today?"; or (grits teeth) at least "Whom have you spoken to today?"

The answer in my case is lots and lots of people. I had a stall at a car boot sale today.

My carer - I have 45 minutes a day to get all my words out, and that's generally about it, although one afternoon a week I go and talk to my mum ...

I am very socially isolated and do most of my chatting online. It's not a good way to be.

No friends or family. I often think that if anything happened to the two of us, we could be dead a week and no one would know. Why do I have to be the one to always make the phone calls.?

By the time I caught up with this it was Sunday. I spent the day with a friend from school. We met when we were eleven. I was with her all day and we never ran out of conversation, or laughs.
I need more days like that.
