Good Morning Saturday 1st June 2024

Good afternoon from a dull and grey East Midlands. No point in getting out of bed on days like this.

Wow Yongy, I started teaching in 1966, and my annual salary was about £760 a year - an enormous amount to me at the time. I remember feeling excited a few years later when it reached the dizzying heights of 4 figures!

We have just had some really good news, our eldest grandson (22) has just finished his apprenticeship and has been offered a job with a HUGE salary to match. He is very well thought of and will do an excellent job. When I think how little my husband was paid when he started his first teaching job in 1969. Our grandson will be earning the amount of amount of money my husband received as a secondary school headteacher in the early part of this century. WOW! Our grandson is saving up to buy a house, he is able to put away the same amount each month in his savings account as my husband earned in a year when he first started teaching!

Good morning from N Bucks where it is cloudy and seems to be windy (observed from safely inside) however I did a load of washing overnight so it could prove a good drying day.
Shocking news last night that our friend who has been undergoing chemo for bowel cancer -and very successfully - had a stroke yesterday and is in Charing Cross hospital
Better news this morning, that he has recovered some speech and subject to tests, may be moved to Luton and Dunstable which is a bit nearer home.
Their D is one of D1’s oldest friends from primary school where her mother and I, chatting while the girls had their tennis lesson, discovered not only that we had both been at St Andrew’s at the same time but had in fact been in the same French class (and DH’s Russian class) So we go back a year or two!

What a lot of posts! I had a wakeful night and then finally went to sleep at something after 6.00 am so have overslept. Since I have no plans apart from getting some washing done and outside it hardly matters but I feel slightly ashamed nevertheless.

My battle of wits with the squirrel continues and he is currently very cross because I haven’t refilled the bird feeders - hard on the little birds but I want to break his habit. Somehow doubt if this will work and foresee the necessary purchase of expensive squirrel proof feeders is imminent.

Good morning and happy White Rabbits day from another overcast day in Northampton. Slept in this morning after a very late night.

Still tired but happy after our exciting semi-final win against Saracens last night! It was a close-run thing, ending 22-20 in Saints favour. The ground was absolutely packed and all Saints fans in good voice. Twickenham next Saturday for the final, but not sure whether I shall go or not.
Was starving when I got back from the match, so had a midnight chip butty!

DS answered my call of help yesterday morning, and we spent a couple of hours re-assembling the TV corner unit which a naughty cat had demolished the previous evening. Hopefully no more cat curiosity adventures for a while!

Shall probably hop on the bus later and venture out to the shops; I don't need much, but just want to get out of the house. May have a coffee and a bite to eat.

Steak for dinner tonight, an easy meal.

Good morning from a fine, again windy Durham. I expect that means it won’t be as nice outdoors as it looks.
I’m confused with the days - having seen and helped DD2 yesterday, I’m convinced it’s Sunday today - obviously it isn’t, otherwise I’d be at DGS2’s early birthday party.
Coffee with a friend this morning then I might plant out some spring pansies from pots and tubs to make way for the usual pelargoniums. However, with the house encased in scaffolding, it seems a bit pointless?
Lots of birthdays and anniversaries on GN to celebrate today, but not forgetting to think of those struggling with what life has dealt them.

Good morning from our holiday in the Algarve. We have been here for two weeks and really is a special place. We have a few more days left before returning home. We haven’t done as much getting out and about as usual as the weather has been so hot. Also it was such a busy time before we came here so needed some downtime.
Today looks like another hot one. The 10 & 5 year old GC are still asleep they were late to bed last night. They want to do Adventure Golf this morning then down to Vilamoura Marina before swimming in pool this afternoon. DH wants to go to Saturday market at Loule😊

Good morning from a dry NE.
Yesterday was a bits and bobs day, emptied the kitchen cupboards and got rid of old cleaning materials lurking at the back. Found some washing machine cleaner so ran a cleaning cycle while I was busy. Thought I might as well clean the oven while I had the time so got out the battery operated brush and set to.

Sister and BIL are back from their holiday so I will probably see them this afternoon.
DS and GD2 are coming this afternoon, I hope GD is over her horrible cold she had last week and it didn't spoil her week off school.

So far the weather is certainly looking better than yesterday here. And it had better be - 9 of us for a pub lunch later, for our 50th - 🍾🥂 - as long as it’s not raining there’s a huge area for the Gdcs to run around in.

Morning all from a lovely north Wales- looks like summer has arrived and we’re promised 🌞 all weekend lots of washing at PG Towers!

I shall trot along to the next village for my newspaper bidding good morning to horses, squirrels, rabbits and various birds along the way - I rarely see a human this early!

Will hop on a bus to Deganwy Prom Day later then on to Conwy for lunch and share a bottle of rose in the secret wine garden - must make the most of this weather after all 5he moaning I’ve done since returning from mi Casa!

Conwy is very pleasant, my maternal Grandmother lived there for a while in the early 60s.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon in Conwy.

Had very sad news yesterday to hear of the death of a dear close friend, our friendship going back to the 80s. I spent a sleepless night thinking about him and our times together 😢

Had to shift myself this morning as the tree surgeon is here (at great expense) doing extensive work on my forest in the back garden…
I had a FaceTime last night with my son and he said he would have done it with his friend as they have done work here before and I should really have asked him. I’m kicking myself as I could have saved myself a lot of money.
However, he’s abroad so much and often hard to pin down so at least it’s being done now.

Good morning everyone from a bright, hopefully sunny, Essex coast.
The quiz last night was well attended. Our team came third out of six. Not too bad as we thought the questions were quite hard. Everyone enjoyed it. We didn't get home til nearly 12 so a very late night for us.
Some shopping this morning and a friend is coming round this afternoon to help me with some yacht club admin.
We shall be watching football this evening.

It's flaming June here in the Scottish Borders.

I am bussing & training to the northern shores of the Forth today.

Yesterday was rather nice. Serving at the community shop followed by a celebration lunch for the people who have put the Polish Map on the map.
I didn't do much apart from allowing DH to work on it.

Yesterday was washing, Tesco delivery and last night in the pub I gave away my spare veg plants.
