Why shouldn't she be criticised she had better get used to it. Nothing to do with Northern accents, my husband and 2 children have Northern accents, nothing wrong with coming from up North. My point is she is potentially going to be our next Deputy PM and she keeps getting her words wrong if you think that OK well your choice but put her next to someone educated like Penny Mordaunt and the cracks start to show in my opinion and I am allowed to have one.

As the country rages at the news of another Number 10 lockdown garden party there is one woman that seems to be everywhere. The Deputy Leader Of The Opposition Angela Rayner has relentlessly held Boris Johnson to account on social media and across numerous TV channels throughout the ongoing controversy.
She said on BBC Breakfast the Prime Minister should resign for attending the BYOB gathering. She told Channel 4 ‘many people would be disgusted,’ at his actions. She asked on Sky News{ =nofollow}: ‘Why are we propping up this man who lied to the British public and who has broke the rules and broke the law?’

Across these multiple platforms, Rayner spoke clearly and critically about the apparent hypocrisy of Boris Johnson and his Government. Yet rather than commending her resilience, many people had just one comment to make about Rayner’s speech: It should be ‘broken the rules’ not ‘broke’.
‘I’ve been on the media this morning so my accent and grammar are being critiqued,’ Rayner responded on Twitter. ‘I wasn’t Eton educated, but growing up in Stockport I was taught integrity, honesty and decency. Doesn’t matter how you say it. Boris Johnson is unfit to lead.’
The noticeable public response to Rayner’s way of talking exemplifies that we, as a nation, have come to expect politics to be drenched in Southern accents and ostentatious speech. When the response from a politician is blunt and immediate, rather than convoluted and evasive, suddenly it feels wrong.
Why are we valuing the language of people, such as Johnson, that use words like ‘contrition’ instead of guilt or shame? This is often the language of lies. It allows for deception through its inaccessibility. It has the power to manipulate figures and facts with semantic smoke and mirrors.
When Rayner stood in for a covid-ridden Keir Starmer at the first Prime Minister’s Questions of the year, she grilled Johnson about inflation running at six per cent, to which his reply was, essentially, ‘um, er’.

I did not. I think the level of political debate now is so puerile that I do not want to waste one moment of my remaining life on it.

I will study the relevant manifestos and make a decision based on that; and will also study the opinion poll outcomes for my area to decide which party might be most likely to oust the Tories.

I do not need to listen to people ranting at each other, pointing their fingers - and lying.

So you’re more concerned about that than the point she was making about the Conservatives basing their campaign by lying about Labour Party policies and trying to ignore their record over the past 14 years?

The other parties are not an irrelevance unless you think that the people who vote for them too are as well maddyone. If you followed that argument to its logical conclusion there would only be two parties, and the holding to account by the others would be lost.

The LibDems, Greens, SNP, Reform, nor any other party, other than Labour or Conservative will be in power after the election. The others are all an irrelevance.
Of course we all also know that Labour will win in July, and in order to fulfil their promises, taxes must rise, whatever they’re claiming now. I hope they put those extra taxes into the NHS, Defence and roads. And they put pressure on the water companies to obey the law and clean up the water.

I don't think Mishal Hussein did a very good job of moderating. She allowed a shouting match between Paenny Mordaunt and Angela Raynor to continue for far too long and let Farage spout his usual anti -immigration spell again and again.

By far the most coherent speakers were Daisy Cooper, deputy leader of the LibDems and Stephen Flynn of the SNP who was the only one to point out the damage that Brexit has inflicted on our economy.

The Green lady made a wry omment about the unseemly spat between Mordaunt and Raynor. Penny Mordaunt has gone way down in my estimation and I wouldn't be surprised if she looses her seat. Even the Thatcheresque bouffant hairdo might not be enough to save her.

Let's face it,if he came out with the most sensible, good for the country manifesto, you would still hate the man.

I was talking about his performance on the programme though Freya5. Did you hear him mention what Reform’s plans were at all, I’m happy to wind back and watch it again if you can tell me where he did?

He would reduce immigration to nothing. That seems to be enough of a policy for some people. Because that is the solution to all of our problems isnt’t it . The party are really bigging up the threat of war in Europe so they’ve increased their ‘threat from outside’ rhetoric.

Except for snippets, I haven't a clue as to Reforms' overall vision, plans, costings - waiting for the manifesto. He's good at sniping at others without saying, "and this is what Reform would do".

On a more serious note, Money Saving Expert’s Martin Lewis hit the nail on the head on Good Morning Britain this week when he asked Labour’s Jonathan Ashworth how the party would deal with the “black hole” in Britain’s finances. When he couldn’t elicit an answer, Lewis commented: “You can increase debt, which you’ve said you won’t do; you can print money, which would be inflationary; you put up taxes, which you’ve said you won’t do; or, you could cut spending, which you’ve said you won’t do, which means if you can’t do any of those, we’re living in fairy-tale land.”
