The newly retired Air Vice Marshal was handed a list of outstanding jobs by his wife at breakfast. He read the list carefully, took out his pen, wrote 'Approved' at the top and handed it back to his wife.
Tizliz my mother-in-law said of my father-in-law (who died when my husband was little) that he liked to spend time "thinking". He would often listen to music when he was taking time out to think. She said she would have picked up a book whilst he was thinking and that she found it odd as a newly married young woman. She said maybe that was why he was so full of interesting and extraordinary ideas.
I wish I'd known him - and wish that my lovely husband had had longer with him.
Mine has his own list of jobs to do and I have mine. If I wrote down something I would like him to do for me it would take as long to write it as it would to just do it myself.
Whoops, I've just noticed that this must be a thread I've had open for a while but hadn't read yet. Oh well, now I've written it I'll post anyway.
It sounds like your OH needed that break! Sometimes a little humor and care can make all the difference. Glad to hear he enjoyed his "list" and got some rest.
he spent the day listening to music and 'thinking'
My DH would not be impressed if I gave him a list with jobs I thought he ought to do. He likes to organise his own days. Likewise I don’t expect a list of jobs from him. We are both retired.
Tizliz that was a nice thing to do, blank paper.
The OP has to be a joke, surely 🤦🏼♀️
yes it was a joke, I did give him the paper but I would never give him a list.

I write a list of things that need doing…… Certainly wouldn’t dream of handing it over or even suggesting it was for him, however it is a really useful way of things eventually being done that I know wouldn’t.
My nephew makes fun of me because I write a list of jobs for the day in my diary and tick them off as they get done.
I believe in doing one task at a time and hate being interrupted. I am not good on "tentative" arrangements and despise multi tasking.
Making a list of jobs means that I identified that they need doing. It is a first step to doing them.
But I dont feel any moral obligation to get through all the tasks on my list. The ones I find least appealing probably get shunted to the bottom of several lists.

My DH will usually tell me what little jobs he is planning on doing. He does ask me if there is anything I want him to help with. We do work well together and also like our own space since we retired.

I went out today but before I left I handed my OH a piece of paper which was a list of jobs - when he opened it it was blank! I thought he needed a day off as he went to work in his slippers yesterday.
I rang on my way home to check in and he said he was still working his way through the list!
