Some people haven't had a holiday in years because they have no money.

And/or have health issues that means they no longer can or want to travel!
SW Wales here…cold and raining, and around 9* …it’s actually colder inside this house than outside! Old stone built terraced house and the sun only gets into the living room ( IF out) between 6/7 pm…. I’ve been in thermal vest, jumper, often 2 jumper and thick cardie, bed still has 2 duvets on ( one summer weight) … and I’m trying not to put the heating on, but…!

Last year, May was warm and dry as it has been this year too and the rest of the summer was cold, wet and autumn like.

I suspect we are in for a repeat performance, and I just hope the various news agencies don't keep on about the hottest June, July and August ever this year, as they did last.

The south of Europe, Africa and the Indian subcontinent may have been dying of heat, but northern Europe certainly wasn't.

We’re putting ours on ‘extra hour’ every now & again, most days at sone point this month. Very glad we decided to buy more oil despite our imminent house move. There won’t be as much for the new inhabitants as we’d expected.

It's 43 in the shade and 49 in the sun, in Turkey. Sorry for you all.

Here in the West Country it's windy, grey and miserable. We do have fruit on the trees but it's rather late and not as sweet as previous years. Flowers and birds seem to be doing quite well.

Already given in today and switched on the heating, really cold and windy here. Trying not to grumble as the summer before last was just so uncomfortably hot I couldn't bear it with 30C plus for a couple of weeks and no sleep.
As others have said the garden here is the most lush ever, keep having to prune big shrubs and fight my way through the borders. Plants that have hardly flowered in previous years have produced a real abundance of blooms. Sadly the wind is spoiling them.

I'm so glad I didn't pack away in the loft 4 of my warm jumpers and 2 pairs of trousers. It was warm a few weeks ago here but this week it's so cold. OH put the heating on this morning and raining now.

Since most people go abroad now for their holidays in the sun, I'm sure our expectations have changed and we have lots of summer clothes in my case unworn.
I can remember Summer in the 1960s and it wasn't often very warm.
Holidays in wet tents and miserable caravans in Devon and Sussex or picnicking on a freezing beach.

Gosh Silverlining. Cornwall can be beautiful but not so much in poor weather. Plus the cost is eyewatering.

Grabdma70s. It is cool fir most of the year, but don’t think it’s too much to expect at least a few weeks of decent weather when we can use the the garden, go fir a drink once in a while and sit outside, , when we can go to the sea, and swim perhaps, without having to remember to take coats of different sorts and not to forget umbrellas and and galoshes fir outside
We are off to Cornwall this after and , weather forecast much if the same grey wet windy wintry weather. the whole week.

I'm a cold mortal and am disappointed that it's too chilly for me to sit outside unless I dress up in winter clothes. The weather is really weird One minute it's sunny and next minute down comes the rain. At the moment it's very windy

It is the coldest day for 5 years here. Freezing, I’ve got a tracksuit with a jumper and 2 pairs of socks on. The fires blasting out but still cold. 🔥

A farmer friend told me the seasons are changing.
This is more like spring than summer and autumn will be warmer and sunnier. September /October has been glorious recently. Problem is the shorter days.

I am totally fed up with it my DH retired in November and we were so looking forward to days and and holidays when the better weather arrived. Needless to say we are still waiting the temperatures have been a mix of cool to downright cold and not a day seems to pass without rain. Global warming really ?

King George 11 famously said the British summer is three fine days and a thunderstorm. This year I think that might be about right!
Currently it's 7° cloudy and dull where I live.
This is not summery weather.

If this is true then nothing much has changed since 1760.

I remember when Monty Don said global warming (as it was termed then) would mean hot, dry, Mediterranean summers in the UK and advised planting drought-resistant plants.
The next summer it rained and rained.

Yesterday seemed promising (although I wore layers) but it's going to rain heavily here today

I sort of don’t mind the weather as long as it is dry. I can get out and about and enjoy the fresh air and countryside, but the rain gets very tedious and extreme heat is not good as you get older as poor Dr. Moseley found to his cost.

I hope it stays cool like this. I loathe hot weather.

We have a temperate climate in this country which means that we don't get extremes.
It can snow in any month in the year.
There were hailstones as big as golfballs in August one year.

The sun is hotter in the so-called summer months but it has to be visible.

I, too, have been using my electric blanket for a few minutes most nights.

Had to put my electric blanket on last night here in Lancashire

Our central heating runs off the thermostat, which is set at 18.5 degrees. It is still coming on every morning and someimes in the evening as well.

I am very concrened about its affect on our veg garden where everything has gone in late and is refusing to thrive. Like karmalady I am concerned about the effect this weather will have on agricultural production this year.

My refund from Octopus yesterday may have been premature, heating was on for an hour last night.
