Received an email this morning from a well known greeting card from that I use. Why don’t these mistakes get noticed? I hate seeing this spelling mistake.

‘Your’ instead of ‘you’re’ annoys me intensely, as well as the mixing of singular and plural in a sentence.

Meat loaf sang a song with a title "two out of three ain't bad"
So your happy with my two out of three ain't bad comments?

"That word" just annoys me, when I hear it in a news report that are being broadcast after the hour of midnight, when the report was compiled the previous day.

infoman

Wish I could DELETE the word tomorrow in its audio and written form.

How often do you see "that word" in a report saying "that word"

Every day of the week has its own name

Using ex as opposed to former

using the phrase you WILL remember in a news report
it should be you MAY recall

It is inaccurate to use the day of the week to designate either the previous day (yesterday) or the next day (tomorrow)
So neither a spelling mistake or incorrect usage.
Check Fowler if you don’t believe me

I am glad,
we all don't have the same thoughts and opinions.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 05-Jul-24 08:41:24

I don’t understand that at all. How odd.

Witzend Thu 04-Jul-24 18:03:03

Lately, people spelling Keir as Kier!! 🤬

If you’re interested enough to write about him, please FGS spell his name properly!

New Year’s and Valentine’s.
What happened to the Day?
Also unnecessary apostrophes!
Would of, etc.

Germanshepherdsmum Wed 26-Jun-24 15:43:58

I agree. I don’t like ‘anymore’ either.

Witzend Wed 26-Jun-24 15:18:29

I know it’s often thought acceptable now, but I really hate ‘alright’.
And why is ‘anyways’ all over the place at the moment? Please remove that ‘s’ - thank you.

I’ve seen ‘discrete’ at least twice very recently, when the person meant ‘discreet’.
Not many people seem to know that the meanings are completely different.

Nvella Mon 24-Jun-24 18:34:36

Should of, could of, would of!

Lemontart Sun 23-Jun-24 08:45:57

Definately and Pajamas instead of definitely and pyjamas are two I really hate.

Have to confess to a wry smile and a temptation to a suitable reply every time a tradesman or IT guy types 'bare with me'!

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 21-Jun-24 12:20:31

Can’t you understand a joke? I didn’t have a private education either.

LucyAnna2 Fri 21-Jun-24 12:17:06

Perhaps he should have had a private education.

Perhaps his parents (a) couldn’t afford it (b) chose not to use private education. The proof reader should be sacked.

Just browsing the Labour candidate’s leaflet that came through our door.

It says ‘Voting at a Poling Station?’

He doesn’t mention anything about education in his bumph though.
