It's only powder paint, it won't do permanent harm.

Prisons are full then why not have the protesters cleaning graffiti from walls and litter picking. Obviously they should wear their T shirts so that we know why they are there.
Mindless vandalism.

henetha

I hope these morons are made to clean these ancient stones thoroughly, and then hit them where it hurts - financially with huge fines.
I detest their behaviour.

I suspect that cleaning the stones whilst leaving the rare lichen species intact would be way beyond these morons. Best they be sentenced to clearing up dog faeces from pavements, far more in line with their intellectual capabilities.
I'd love to hear their justifications for their assault on these rare lichens, or maybe they'd just have to confess their total ignorance of the damage they'd caused. They don't always seem the brightest.......

The people who are travelling there to spend the solace.

Casdon Wed 19-Jun-24 21:23:04

My punishment idea for the idiots is that under close supervision they clean up all the damage they have done, with toothbrushes, wearing their Stop Oil T-shirts. They will find out what the public really thinks of their antics that way.

Anniebach Wed 19-Jun-24 21:14:58

Their spokesman is sure many will be supportive!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Jun-24 19:17:47

The lichen’s protect the stones from climate change.

Ironic!

M0nica Wed 19-Jun-24 19:12:13

How did they get to Stonehenge? Walk? cycle? bus? How did they intend to get home again. Are they local.

Perhaps the best punishment would be to stop them using any form of transport that consumes hydrocarbons in use or in construction for six months. This would mean, of course, that if they wanted to go anywhere they would have to walk.

Bridie22 Wed 19-Jun-24 19:10:21

Stand these two idiots in the circle on the 21st and I'm sure the druids, witches and crowd will show them what they think of their disgraceful actions.

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Jun-24 18:44:41

Stone Henge Society are saying on X that they are concerned about the rare lichen’s which live on the stones.

Whethertomorrow Wed 19-Jun-24 18:35:27

They should be tied to the stones until they clean them off completely.

Fancy a night in the dark at Stonehenge, goodness knows what old druids would turn up.

We need to bring back the stocks for vandals etc. being pelted with rotten veg etc might make them think twice.
🤪

They are absolute idiots, however I understand the paint is cornflour based and will wash off.

Yes that's what Just Stop Oil are saying, but will it have harmed the lichen growing on the stones? I expect it would grow back, but what pigment is used for the orange colour, they don't tell us that?

M0nica Wed 19-Jun-24 17:33:49

Every time I hear of one of their outrages I feel like getting into my car and going for a long drive just to spite them and consume lots of petrol

I do not of course, I am far more environmentally thoughtful than any of them.

AGAA4 Wed 19-Jun-24 17:06:51

What do they hope to achieve by this mindless vandalism? I think many people are sick of their stupid antics.

Sparklefizz Wed 19-Jun-24 17:02:32

This is outrageous!
Yes, the law needs to really make an example of these prats, full prisons or not!

JenniferEccles Wed 19-Jun-24 16:47:17

How did they manage to get so close to the stones?
Visitors are kept behind a fence, well away from them, to prevent such acts of vandalism.

The law needs to crack down hard on these idiots, until they all get the message that their stupid little stunts will achieve nothing.

keepingquiet Wed 19-Jun-24 16:26:06

This is the final straw for me- paintings of Kings are one thing but these ancient stones have done no one any harm. Mindless.

Rosie51 Wed 19-Jun-24 16:09:39

Given that none of their other stunts/vandalism have brought forth the promise they demand, why do they think this latest one will succeed?
I think there has to be some sort of custodial sentence along with a criminal record. Stonehenge is a sacred place to some, what next, the altar at St Paul's Cathedral?

TerriBull Wed 19-Jun-24 16:04:10

Vandalism! Stonehenge is a World Heritage Site, 5,000 years old of imense historical significance. Historians and archaeologists still ponder over how it got there and its purpose. Unfortunately we know how these morons got there and their idiotic purpose which is completely futile and achieves nothing angry

Anniebach Wed 19-Jun-24 15:52:08

Agree GrannyGravy Ziplok

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Jun-24 15:44:48

They are vandals

I hope that they are given an appropriate prison sentence (yes I know our prisons are full, but giving them a fine is useless as they will have some dogooder pay it for them)

Ziplok Wed 19-Jun-24 15:36:32

I’m afraid these ‘just stop oil” protesters are succeeding in putting many of us off them with these juvenile antics of theirs. Quite frankly, they are a pain in the neck, and actually belittle their cause rather than strengthen it.

infoman Wed 19-Jun-24 15:31:02

by just stop oil protesters.
The stones have been covered in "orange dust paint"
Its a shame as English heritage MIGHT stop people going inside the stones on Thursday night at 9pm.
