Does anyone have any experience of getting insurance for running a market stall? One of my daughters is going to sell her pottery at a few markets in the summer and the application forms seem to require her to have public liability insurance. We’ve googled, but the quotes seem to be quite high.

No experience LA2 but I guess if someone has an accident (for which the stall holder is liable) the ‘pay-out’ could be quite significant, factoring in lost wages, taxi fares, private physio, etc etc. in the worst scenario.

What do you mean by quite high and how much would that work out for each market your DD attends?

Yes, I have experience of this. I will get back to you when I have looked up which company I used. I don't remember it being very expensive.

I used the CMTIA, the combined market traders insurance. I paid for a year for £59. This is for £5 million of cover. You can also get single day cover for £23. I found it was worth it, for the peace of mind, also most craft fairs and markets nowadays make insurance mandatory for traders.

That’s great, thanks. The quotes we’d seen were at least double that.

Yes, she’d accepted she needed insurance, and why - it just seemed a high premium. Fingers crossed she doesn’t need it!
