Beautiful evening

keepcalmandcavachon Sat 22-Jun-24 09:05:37

Loving everyone's photos!
I like to mark the time betwix the Solstice & Midsummer Day, reading passages from old favourites- Cassandra's Midsummer Rites on the Mound from I Capture the Castle of course, and delve into the stirring poetry of Edward Thomas and the Dymock Poets. Discovered The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane & Jackie Morris earlier this year too, perfect.
Home made cake, a visit to an ancient place in a beautiful landscape & tealights in jam jars twined with ivy!
More ideas anyone please?

Thank you for reporting me, it will now make me leave these forums as I only joined a few days ago and before I did I read many posts from different posters and your comments on many of them were short and curt. I do agree on saying what you mean but there are ways and means of saying them in a nice way.

Goodbye, I won't wait to be cancelled. I will leave on my own violition.

Why report someone over anything posted here?

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 22-Jun-24 09:31:35

I could nit pick but correcting posters’ writing is against the rules here.

flappergirl Sat 22-Jun-24 09:33:03

Beautiful photos everyone and thank you for sharing.

Midsummer's day is indeed 24th June and Solstice is celebrated on 20th June. The latter term deriving from the Latin for the "sun stands still". Effectively we have reached the height of the season and each day forth leads to the all important harvest.

Have you not read PoorJenny’s posts Mamardoit?

Joseann

Stop being a meanie PoorJenny. GSM is factually correct in what she says.
Anyway, here's one from yesterday early evening in France where it had been a wet wet day.
Lovely photos of skies from others on here.

Hi Joseanne, lovely place but I can't quite decide where you are.. could you say the area possibly..

Why indeed, nit picking comes to mind.

Joseann Sat 22-Jun-24 09:47:51

Sure, pascal30. It's Le Golfe du Morbihan in Southern Brittany.

Such a shame that, what started as a lovely chat with some beautiful photos, has degenerated.

Yes. I understand that you were correct and you didn't like someone implying you were wrong. But to report the poster was over the top.

Just my opinion of course.

Very good keepcalmwink

Help! I think I will stick to the games chats in future.

Grammaretto Sat 22-Jun-24 14:49:39

PoorJenny please don't leave! There are always different opinions and behaviour on here. Let it wash over you.
It would be dull if we were all alike.

I've just spent a week with my DB who is always right. It can be tiresome living with a pedant.

LucyAnna2 Sat 22-Jun-24 14:53:59

Poor Jenny has left GN, apparently.

Germanshepherdsmum Sat 22-Jun-24 14:57:43

I am happy to be told I am wrong if that is the case Mamardoit. But to be told that I am ‘nit-picking as always’ is unpleasant and unnecessary.

sodapop Sat 22-Jun-24 15:16:25

I agree with Mamardoit reporting the poster was also unnecessary.

Constant rain here not much sign of summer mid or otherwise.

eazybee Sat 22-Jun-24 18:16:00

Well, thank you for the discussion about the date; my father was born on June 24th 1905, which we believed to be Midsummer's Day, but were not offended if some believed it to be June 21st. Now I understand.

Calendargirl Mon 24-Jun-24 10:25:27

Well folks, it’s Midsummer’s Day TODAY!

smile

Shelflife Mon 24-Jun-24 10:34:47

Does it matter 🤔! Lovely photos.

keepingquiet Mon 24-Jun-24 10:37:00

My favourite time of year! I love the warm evenings and the light I find it special and magical.

It's a pity some people don't spread a little more solstice/midsummer love at this time of year like we do at Christmas.

To provoke someone into leaving this site seems especially mean spirited to me. I know I left a few years ago due to spiteful and ungenerous comments, but now I've toughened up a bit!

Calendargirl Mon 24-Jun-24 11:01:48

I hope no one thought I was provoking someone to leave by posting about the date again. I thought I was being light hearted, after all the comments the other day.

Perhaps not. Apologies if offence caused.
